Legendary broadcaster Alhagie Sereign Modou Joof on Friday 18th November, 2022. retires from active service for The Gambia At The Age Of 60.

He Served the County From 1981 To 2022 In Various Positions And Departments With Utmost Commitment And Dedication.

We Are Proud Of The Wonderful Services He Rendered To Our County During His Decades Of Serving In The Civil Service.

We Are Wishing Him An Enjoyable And Blessed Life After Retirement.

Nineteen (19) year old Gambian Youth International, Lamarana Jallow has been unveiled by Portugues giants, Sporting Lisbon.

The former Elite United midfield maestro will join the Sporting Lisbon’s B team in a quest to be promoted to the A-Team.

"First of all, I want to thank Sporting CP for the opportunity to play for a club with so much history and which is the current national champion, said Lamarana. "I am very happy to be part of this family, where great players took their first steps," Jallow said following his unveiling.

Multi-talented Gambian Actress, Mariama Colley beat nominees, Jennifer Lim and Cecile Sinclair to win the Long Story Shorts International Film Festival’s Best Actress Award in Romania. An elated Mariama announced her victory on social media this morning [22nd February 2021] as “another win for all the wonderful cast and crew of MÉBÉT and the Gambian Film Industry.”

Former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is scheduled to leave for the Gambia to lend his support to the country’s ongoing constitutional review process and facilitate the process of forging a workable national consensus.

The former President who was invited by the President of Gambia, Mr. Adama Barrow, is expected to deploy his experience and goodwill as a well-respected international statesman towards advancing the constitutional review process and enhancing the progress of the continuing national dialogue, in line with the expectations of Gambians.

The ongoing Gambian transition involves the drafting of a new constitution which has to be passed by the National Assembly before being submitted to a national referendum.

According to the Gambian authorities, the former President is being invited to facilitate the process of the dialogue because of his neutrality and proven record in democratic and constitutional reforms.

Dr. Jonathan who leaves the country on Thursday for The Gambia will be meeting with various stakeholders including President Barrow, political party leaders and parliamentarians, while in the country

The assignment is consistent with the vision of the Elders Forum, a newly constituted body, by the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, to drive proactive consultations with stakeholders in the West African sub-region towards preventing and resolving governance and election-related tensions.

Dr. Jonathan will be supported by the leaders of the intergovernmental International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) who have been designated by the Gambian Government to provide secretarial assistance to the former President, in the course of the mission.

🇬🇲 𝐒𝐀𝐌𝐁𝐀 𝐁𝐀𝐋𝐃𝐄𝐇 : Our brother and proud son of Gambia, Samba Baldeh, was elected as the first Muslim to the Wisconsin State Assembly.

Baldeh was declared the winner with 80 percent of the vote with 97 percent of precincts reporting. Baldeh will be the first Muslim elected to the Wisconsin State Legislature and the first Black man from Dane County.

Baldeh, is an IT project engineer, is currently in his third term on the Madison Common Council representing Madison’s 17th District. He takes over from Rep. Melissa Sargent who had represented the 48th Assembly District since 2013. Congratulations brother, Africa salutes you!

skeleton athlete from The Gambia has set up a crowdfunding page to help his country compete at a Winter Olympic Games for the first time at Beijing 2022.

Amadou Krubally is hoping to raise €15,000 (£13,100/$16,500) through GoFundMe.
He claims that amount would allow him to complete a whole season and qualify for the Winter Olympics in just over two years.
"I'm dreaming of my country The Gambia to compete for the first time at the Winter Olympic Games 2022 in Beijing," Krubally writes on the GoFundMe page.
"I decided to do skeleton, which means throwing myself down an ice channel on a small board, head-first.
"I founded IceGambia, a federation that lets me be a member of the official bobsleigh and skeleton organisation.
"The only thing that is missing are the funds for this season."

This world-renowned Gambian musician is building an academy so children can study their own culture -- without leaving Africa

She has found international fame as a musician, but Sona Jobarteh has a bigger mission -- to use culture to empower Africans to reform their countries.

Jobarteh has been performing with the kora -- a 21-stringed African harp -- on the world stage since she was five years old, becoming the first professional female kora player in the West African country of The Gambia. You can hear her vocals on the soundtrack to the movie "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom."

As well as being an acclaimed performer, Jobarteh is a scholar in the field of traditional West African Mande music, and it was during her studies at SOAS University in London that she came to a realization.
