🚠 How To Get There : You can reach Oeschinensee in two ways- hiking from the train station or riding the cable car. The budget friendly hiking option adds on an additional 1,400 ft of elevation gain and 2+ miles of distance. The cable car option costs 32CHF per person but we think it’s worth it to save that time and energy to hike where it’s more beautiful.
😍 This spectacular hike above the stunning Oeschinensee lake has panoramic views of snow-capped mountain peaks, waterfalls, and one of the brightest blue glacial lakes we’ve ever seen! This hike is NOT for everyone but the lake area certainly is. We saw many people enjoying the lake with activities like swimming, picnic, canoeing, walking, and enjoying the restaurant and alpine coaster.

We recommend doing the Lake Agnes Tea House Hike (4.6 miles + 1427 ft elevation gain) & both Big & Little Beehive hikes. Big was 6.7 miles with 2552 ft elevation gain, Little was 5.7 miles with 1955 ft elevation gain.
📍 Moraine Lake 🏔️
You just can’t beat the turquoise waters & surrounding peaks of this magical spot. Cars are no longer allowed to park at the entrance so you will need to book a shuttle 2 days beforehand. To get the iconic view of the lake, hike the rock pile trail. It’s less than half a mile round trip and 33 ft of elevation gain.
📍 Peyto Lake 🐺
It’s just under a half mile to the view point with 255 ft elevation gain. This is such a unique lake because the outline looks like the profile of a wolf and of course it’s just stunning with that color!
There is an endless amount of stunning lakes in Banff, but these are 3 that we feel are *do not miss* material!

🌲 Distance: 5.7 miles round trip
☁️ Elevation gain: 1955 feet
👣 @alltrails rating: Hard
🚙 Parking situation: Lake Louise parking lot! We arrived around 3:30 am so we had enough time to use the restroom and pay for parking before beginning the hike at 4. Also, it will cost $16 USD for the day (automated kiosk takes cards and tap to pay).
🔦 What to bring: Head lamps, flash lights, Lots of water, snacks, bear spray, bug spray, first aid kit, etc.
🐻 What to expect along on the trail: The hike begins from the Lake Louise shoreline near the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Look for the signs indicating the start of the trail. Hiking in the dark can be challenging, and if you’re like me- terrifying 😅 Stay on the marked trail, follow safety signs, and be cautious of slippery or uneven terrain. Make lots of noise to alert animals of your presence. It’s also advisable to hike with a group for added safety. We were in a group of four and felt safety in numbers!
🌄 What to expect at the summit: Watching the sunrise over Lake Louise and the surrounding peaks is a truly magical experience. Watching the golden light bring everything to life was unforgettable for us.
