Bonifacio Day has been declared as a regular holiday and falls on the hero and Katipunan leader's birthday, Andres Bonifacio.

To recall, Bonifacio was regarded as the "Father of the Philippine Revolution" and one of the founders of the Katipunan, a secret revolutionary society.

bodies missing.

CCYDC, NYC accredits SSC

The Cebu City Youth Development Commission (CCYDC) registered Cebu Normal University (CNU) - Supreme Student Council (SSC) to the National Youth Commission's (NYC) Youth Organization Restoration Program (YORP) last October 17, 2022.

For the first time in the history of the Cebu City Government, CCYDC accredited 29 organizations to the NYC YORP.

In an interview with Ang Suga, CNU-SSC President Hon. Shella Carpina shared that they registered the organization for future benefits they could utilize.

Some of these are expanded organizational networks, collaborations, initiatives for joint project implementation, active involvement in local youth development councils, and the capacity to advocate for financial and logistical support from local government units (LGUs).

Carpina further stated that the main objective of the council's accreditation was to boost the opportunity for the student-leaders to take part in capacity-building programs, local and international exchange programs, fora and conferences, [and] experience in group work and team-building activities.

"It will open up many opportunities for the Normalites to take part in several activities that can develop their servant leadership skills and for active participation not just in academe but also in various centers for youth participation," Carpina said.

With the initiative of the CCYDC's Executive Director Mr. Paolo Martin Saberon, the CCYDC YORP registration officially commenced last January 29, 2022. He invited all Cebu City-based Youth Organizations and Youth Serving Organizations to register in this program to ensure access and participation in NYC-initiated programs nationwide. §

JUST IN: The Marcos government will tap the international debt market for the first time. It targets to borrow at least $500 million through the issuance of US dollar bonds with tenors of 5, 10.5 and 25 years. Proceeds will be used for general budget financing.

LOOK: Retrenchment of manpower of five locators in MEPZ, surely will affect about 4,000 employees and several families.

Five Mactan Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) locators issued an official statement regarding the planned retrenchment program, which will affect approximately 4,000 workers. The damage caused by Typhoon Odette, inflation and the Russian-Ukrainian war are among the factors that pushed these companies to do the retrenchment program, given how the factors affect their operations financially and economically.

NAGA CITY, CEBU— Kagawad Renante Chiong, of Barangay Mainit, Naga City, Cebu faces three administrative cases filed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) of Region VII at the Office of the Ombudsman- Visayas on Thursday, September 29, 2022.

Chiong violated the (1) Republic Act No. 6713, or the “Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.”, (2) Grave Misconduct pursuant to Section 50, Rule 10 of the 2017 Rules on Administrative Cases in Civil Service (2017 RACCS) and its relevant jurisprudence, and (3) Conduct Prejudicial to the Best Interest of Service pursuant to Section 46, Chapter 7 (Discipline) of The Revised Administrative Code of 1987 on the Civil Service Commission and its pertinent jurisprudence.

These cases were filed after Chiong was arrested during a search and warrant operation led by the PDEA-VII last August 23,2022, where 12 packs of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia were confiscated on hand.

September 21, 1972 martial law was established and the Marcos dictatorship began that allowed Marcos to control history on his own terms. Remembering the sad times that happened to all the people who suffered from indignation, repression of basic freedom and freedom of the press, and unadulterated corruption was seen. It left a mark that until now reminds the entire country of his cruelty.

Let us remember, 50 years ago, a dark period descended upon our country due to the declaration of martial law. University of the Philippines (UP), remember this by commemorating, through organizing an event that everyone could participate and appreciate. University of the Philippines (UP) joins the notion of remembering and honoring all the brave activists, and human rights victims who fight side by side together and stand up for the truth during the Marcos regime.

On this year’s UP Day, with the theme, “𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗮 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗻, 𝗜𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗵𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻,” UP holds a different series of activities and events, both online and in a face-to-face setup where everyone is free to see colorful art pieces that are dedicated to the victims. A short play was also presented and acted by the Film media students that portrays and recalls as to what happened to all the victims during martial law.

Commemoration of the people's struggles and sacrifices during the martial law period across the University of the Philippines System. The event aims to emphasize the importance of history and its methods for telling the truth and combating historical distortion and disinformation. Those who survived and witnessed the rigors of martial law during the 14-year period should never forget their experiences, but rather learn from them.
