My favorite season of the year announced its arrival by dressing the meadows with beautiful wild edibles just in time for Easter. I gathered wild sweet violets in the fields and turn them into pretty springtime desserts. Flowers for dessert anyone?

Ditch the heavy jacket, spring is here!

Lately, I have been spending some of my spare moments walking in the woods and watching the early morning dew fade into the day. I am always fascinated with moss. How ancient and mysterious they are and how easily they could evoke the feeling that could only be taken from the pages of storybooks and fairytales.

I foraged for moss in one of my morning walks and brought a part of the woodlands with me into our home by creating my first kokedama and terrarium. Creating a terrarium evokes a beautiful sense of calmness and magic as you build your own miniature world. Kokedama is a Japanese planting method. Moss is revered by the Japanese people in their gardens and it is widely celebrated in their botanical arts.

It is comforting to think that these ancient little things will continue to guard over the lush woodlands for more generations to come.

The last days of winter brought eager anticipation to the coming of the new season. I can smell the spring in the air. The sun shines much brighter and the air is softer. My own creativity started to bloom just as the first signs of spring crept into my system. I am excited to go out, start new projects, and start digging in the dirt in the garden.

I planted some hyacinth bulbs in pots indoors to celebrate the coming of spring. The hyacinth flower is one of the most fragrant of all the spring flowers and I wanted to preserve its scent even after its blooming season. Hyacinth essential oil is a bit pricey in the world of fragrances so I decided to experiment and create my first hyacinth-infused oil and alcohol.......................................................................................................

Winter is almost over and though I am happy that in a short while I will have more time to enjoy the sun and the outdoors, there is always a sad feeling for me to say goodbye to every season. A part of me will miss the dreamy snow covering our little town in a blanket of white and magic. So I decided to spend the last days of winter strolling around the frozen lake, listening to the snowflakes quietly falling to the freezing ground, and watching the busy birds preparing for the coming of spring.

Extremely cold weather conditions cut off the local wild birds from their natural food sources so I made some eco-friendly bird feeders to feed our feathered friends. I hope these simple bird feeders will keep the little ones happy and their bellies full.

Farewell, Winter... Farewell, old season. See you again in December.

Sometimes, in the depths of winter, I wish I could crawl and burrow under the warm and cozy sheets and not get out until I feel the first warmth of spring like some wee seed in the woodland floor. But winter is also a beautiful and whimsical season especially when the landscape turns into a magical sea of sparkling white. One of my favorite things to do during the winter season is to walk through the evergreen woods and forage for wild spruce needles. I love baking spruce cookies, sipping a hot cup of spruce tea, and lighting spruce scented tea lights while huddled in a warm blanket beside the fire and burrowing my head into a good book. It felt like a big comforting hug from the forest at home amidst the moody wintry weather outside............................................
