One of these mountain ridges you should better be prepared to climb. Shortly before I arrived in the area, I had doubts if it would be smart to attempt Koncheto and Vihren Peak (2nd highest in Bulgaria) solo in snowy and windy conditions. My thoughts were strengthened by an accident of a solo climber the day before. With doubts in mind I tried to figure out a different route, went for scouting and figured that there is another way up on the south-west slopes. Fortunately this one was less covered with snow and less steep so I eventually did make it to the summit - even though winds were gusty and temperatures dropped -15°C. Glad I made it, I couldn’t stop watching the mighty Koncheto ridge. What a masterpiece of mother nature! I will definitely come back to climb you one day.

What a year which is coming to an end. Normally I am not a great supporter of counting life in years - everyday should be cherished. However, I am looking back on (let’s call it) a timeframe with great memories, new adventures, new friends, many emotions, ups and downs, unknown fears, confronted positivity and negativity, spontaneous travels, insane skies, forces of nature, beautiful landscapes, life changing challenges, love, new ideas, time to reflect and many many more things. The list is long. The people who to name as part of this journey endless. The plans for the future clearer and more unknown than ever.

Summit happiness in the brutally cold and windy Bulgarian mountains. Set my self the goal to solo summiting to the second highest peak of Bulgaria, Mount Vihren - in quiet difficult conditions for sunrise. Essentially important for the route up was to feel the ground of loose rock and snow even more than usual. Relying on a stable grip and your own feet during pour visibility was key to the success . Feel the ground - Not the cold! . [*ad]
