If you have ever struggled with sleep this is a must listen.

In this podcast, Leah Corkum and Marlee Boyle go into detail about what is actually going on when we sleep, how our habits have an impact on our sleep, and how people can educate themselves about sleep in order to improve their lives.

It is one thing to simply tell people to "go to bed earlier," and it is a completely different to story to actually explain how sleep works. If we can develop an understanding about why it is important to change our daily habits, it is much easier to commit.

Hi Everybody!

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am launching a new service that is sort of like a "freelancing gig" but it's a special deal for my LinkedIn connections!

This is how it works:

* you send me a list of 1 - 5 videos that you would like to record, letting me know about your key messages / what you would like to say on camera

* we get on a zoom call, and record the screen (I don't appear in the final video at all, it's all you!)

* Since I know what you would like to say, I will ask you questions prompting your responses so that your delivery comes across naturally (I have years of experience interviewing people in person)

* it should take about 10 minutes to record 2 minutes worth of content (it saves a lot of time to record multiple videos in a row)

* I edit the videos, add subtitles, your name, social channels, logo, music, and anything else that you want to add to the video, and provide unlimited revisions (I send private video links for you to watch)

* I provide multiple formats for various social platforms (with subtitles on the screen if you want) & YouTube (without subtitles on the screen)

* The cost will be somewhere from $100 to $200 per video including everything!

Is that something that sounds fair to you?

I am looking for clients that are ready to get out of their comfort zone and speak on camera, and that I can learn something from as well!

I created a new page on my Squarespace site specifically for LinkedIn, and the service is now available to purchase! I can also send an invoice in any major currency using FreshBooks which can be paid online through PayPal or Stripe.

Many people out there would like to have more video content to promote what they're working on, or just to connect with their audience, but they aren't quite comfortable on camera.

I provide a remote direction service. What is this?

While you record video on your phone I will be with you on video chat on a second screen.

Still can't picture how that works? Check out the video below!

"I would record and upload video, but I don't know how, and I don't have anything to say anyway." - 90% of the internet.

Ok, 90% is a number that I just made up, but it is probably even higher than 90%. To be honest, i'm not really an extroverted person, so even though I have video production skills, it is still challenging for me to force myself to record video for social media.

What i've found though, is that once I get rolling it becomes easy, and even dare I say, fun?!

As I show you in this video, all you need is an affordable tripod from Amazon, and your phone, and you have yourself a studio for your videos.

I think any anybody reading this easily has enough to talk about to produce a short video every week. It's ok to have overlap in what you talk about.

In fact, all of the top content creators in the world tend to repeat themselves often.

If you're interested in recording selfie videos, but don't know how to edit, I have created a unique service that offers remote video editing. I put in the captions, and make everything smooth, for the lowest price in the video production industry.

Ok, ok, there are many scenarios that we could talk about that would warrant putting your phone on airplane mode. When you're at the movies, for one. (Anybody else out there miss going out to see a movie?!) Or, obviously, when you're on an airplane.

The specific scenario that i'm talking about though, is when you're using your phone to record video.

Before you mount your phone on your mini tripod to record your selfie videos, make sure that the phone is on airplane mode so that:

* Your phone won't distract/interrupt you while recording

* You will get "in the zone" knowing that you are shut off from the online world for a brief period of time (Professional athletes don't have their phones with them on the bench because they're in the moment, in the zone. This is your time to be in your zone, recording wise.)

If connecting with your audience is not a priority, then you will not make time to connect with your audience.

If you schedule a time to record video, that should be just as strict of an item in your calendar as any other appointment (if not more). https://www.remotevideo.co/gear

In this video I go over the basics of framing yourself up in your selfie videos.

If you're planning on recording videos like this I would grab a phone tripod on Amazon and start hitting record.

You don't need a fancy backdrop, or a fancy camera. I actually have a more expensive camera, but I still use my phone because the selfie mode just makes it easier with a solo setup.

Get yourself framed up, hit record, and get after it!

I have had a few people ask me how tech savvy they have to be to use my remote video production service.

The answer is that if you can use LinkedIn, or even take a picture on your phone and share it with somebody, that is as technical as things will get.

You: "Hey everybody, I just uploaded a new video talking about my experience in ..."

Friend: Who do you think you are, some sort of influencer?

Yah, I mean who do you think you are anyway sharing your knowledge and expertise with the world, or just sharing a few laughs using video? How dare you let your audience get to know you, and let future partners and/or employers get a sense for what it's like to hang out with you without having to conduct a formal interview in person. The nerve you have!

In case you hadn't guessed, i'm being sarcastic.

The reality is that we have an extremely powerful tool in the palm of our hands today, and we're putting ourselves at a pretty serious disadvantage by not using it. What i'm talking about is the video camera in your phone.

You have more to share with your audience than you think. There is no need to rehearse, there is no need for a script, and there is no need to even be motivated to do it. All you have to do is block a time in your calendar to record video, and do it even if you don't feel like it.

If you are unsure how to get started from a technical standpoint, and don't have the time to edit your own videos, I can help! :)

One of my favourite things about the show “Succession”, other than the unique dialogue / burns of course, is the depiction of incompetence.

The show depicts a wealthy man and his adult children in New York city.

The characters in the show that struggle with their identities and their sense of value and competence reminded me of what the process of building a career, is really doing at the personal level.

I feel as though a lot of us are building what I would consider to be “true power.” Yes, having an abundance of financial resources is a version of “power” but it doesn’t guarantee a reality of being a powerful person.

What I mean by “true power” is the ability to walk confidently into any room, stand up straight, look people in the eye, confidently talk about what you do, and feel as though you are one of the best at what you do in your field whether the market has recognized it yet or not.

Some of the characters in do not demonstrate “true power” at all which makes their characters clumsy, and ultimately creates some pretty hilarious scenarios.

Enjoy!

One of my favourite shows of the past few years is Stranger Things .

Are they "borrowing" various tropes from the 80's, and leaning into nostalgia? Sure. But they execute it extremely well. Everything from the synth music, to the cinematography.

I also love the "work around" of not yet having cell phones, so they use walkie talkies to be pretty amazing.

If you somehow still haven't seen this show, I highly recommend it!

Back when I was in elementary school, a teacher tried to explain the concept of a leap year to the class.

The way that she explained it involved putting time away "in a glass jar" every year, and in a leap year, you remove the time that was stored away and that creates an extra day in the year.

Somehow I was the only kid in the class who wasn't satisfied with this explanation so I raised my hand and asked for clarification about how time can be contained in a physical space like a jar.

Long story short, the entire class ended up laughing uncontrollably because I was unable to comprehend this which to kids in elementary school mean that I was dumb.

This represents a lot of my experience in school at that age, and also honestly as an adult in the workplace. I "ask too many questions."

The moral of the story is that questioning things is viewed as annoying. Nobody wants to hear you question things, question protocols, and question why "things are the way they are."

If you have a natural desire to question things, and imagine how things could be better, don't let people dump cold water on that.

Facebook ,

A few years ago, I deleted all of my social media accounts and took a break from all social media for a solid year. I felt noticeably better, and had no intention to return to social media until just over a year ago because I moved to a new city where I didn't know anybody, and thought that being on social might help me connect with new people, as well as friends in other cities. Since then i've noticed a specific narrative on Instagram about "hating monday's" and generally working for the weekend.

I'm so happy that I started diving into LinkedIn because I feel like we have a much more positive and supportive community of people that see the value in working hard, and improving at our respective careers. I actually like Monday's because I feel as though it is a fresh "shot clock" which is exciting (basketball reference). I get more joy out of getting a positive testimonial from a client than going out for drinks. In fact going out for drinks and sitting around has become boring to me. Building things from nothing excites me.

If you aren't on LinkedIn you're missing out! There is a lot more positivity/productivity going on over there than other platforms.

"I don't believe in process. In fact, when I interview a potential employee and he or she says that 'it's all about the process,' I see that as a bad sign. The problem is that at a lot of big companies, process becomes a substitute for thinking. You're encouraged to behave like a little gear in a complex machine. Frankly, it allows you to keep people who aren't that smart, who aren't that creative." - Elon Musk

I agree with Elon here based on how I think that he is defining process. I think he's defining process more in the sense of a process being a system, protocol, or just accepting things because "that's just he way they are."

When it comes to say, getting in shape, if you don't embrace the process, and the tiny wins over time (like changing a small habit) it will be very difficult to stay upbeat. I think that process can mean more than one thing.

Sticking with the getting in shape analogy, I can question conventional ways of working out and "dieting" (which I do by the way, so in essence I am questioning a type of process) but I understand that getting in shape is a result of consistent habits which can be viewed as a "process."

How do you define “process”?

Hello Facebook!

It's Sunday which means that I share articles, podcast episodes, and videos that I have learned something from, or have inspired me in some way.

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin

As I was building the concept for RemoteVideo.Co this is part of the ideology that I had in mind. It's one thing for me to show up at your office and tell everybody what to do and film everything, charge money and leave, but I would rather work with you one on one and actually figure out what you're trying to say to your audience and map out consistent video content for you.

The result is an accumulative effect. Video is just the medium/technology that we're using. What we're really doing is connecting you with your audience on a deep level.

I don't think of myself just as a "video producer." I'm a relationship builder. I help you build a relationship with your audience using technology that happens to be video.

Creativity and innovation doesn't always have to be about creating something completely original. One example that comes up quite a bit is wheels on luggage. It took a number of years of people buying luggage before somebody put wheels on it.

Whomever was the first to put wheels on luggage didn't invent the wheel, and as far as I know, they didn't even luggage either.
