Lemonade Stand, we have a very special night planned:
We will be having a Charity Stream, Participating in a Solo-Duo Kill Race & to top it all off, Figure Twelve Gaming & I have agreed to dress up like pretty ladies for the stream :D
First things, first. AND MOST IMPORTANT: We will be supporting a young man in the UK who has been in an incredible battle with a rare cancer. Jake is 13 y/o, a great kid, and loves Fortnite. In support of Jake and his family, stars will be turned off, and any money sent will go straight to Jake and his family. Please send any direct dono's to paypal.me/figuretwelve. DJ will send all money to the family.
We will also be supporting CLIC Sargent, a wonderful organization that does so much for kids battling cancer, and has helped Jake's family quite a bit. Please also feel free to donate directly to Clic Sargent at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/loulemonz. More information on Clic Sargent and their cause can be found here: https://www.clicsargent.org.uk/what-we-do/the-six-ways-we-help/.
Liz Blunt, Senior Fundraising Manager, at Clic Sargent wrote the following in a note to me:
"Every day in the UK, Doctors have to tell 12 children and young people that they have cancer which means around one child in 500 will develop some form of cancer by the age of 14. CLIC Sargent is there from the beginning of treatment right through to the end providing support that is non-medical such as emotional support: helping families with their worries and helping with solutions whether it's getting in touch with another organisation to help with a housing issue or speaking with a school about their child's return to school or liaising with workplaces for young people with cancer. We also provide bereavement support and financial support such as helping apply to the government or another charity for financial support.
We have 21 specialist hospitals in the UK such as Great Ormond Street Hospital where children and young people with cancer go for the majority of their treatment.
As well as our fantastic Social Workers another main way we help local families is with our Homes from Home. Families can stay as long as they like, free of charge in our homes like Paul’s House in London or Jean’s House in Southampton so they can be close by to the hospital. It also helps families financially as our research shows that on average families need to find an extra £600 a month for things like travel costs and in fact 61% of families end up in debt.
CLIC Sargent doesn't receive any government funding for its vital support. We can only provide this support due to supporters fundraising and making donations so a HUGE thank you to everyone involved tonight.
Similar to many other charities, we have faced a huge drop in fundraising income recently so have needed to become a much smaller charity after many staff redundancies, and yet it has been a time when our families have needed us more than ever with the extra anxiety and restrictions that Covid-19 has brought. Our priority remains to ensure that no family has to cope with cancer alone.
Very many thanks and best wishes for later. Liz :)"
As you can tell, Clic Sargent does amazing work, and I am so excited that our community can come together and support Jake, his family and this charity. We will be kicking off at 5:30 PM EST tonight, with the Tournament starting at 6 PM EST. Cannot wait to see you all there!!! 🍋💚💛💜🍋
