I've recorded multiple protests now. I didn't realize that Akron Police Department was actually worse than any other department I've interacted with. Incredible. I walked up to ask a question from officers downtown. I unfortunately wasn't recording, because in this instance I didn't think I needed to. No one else was around causing any problems for them. They were immediately hostile, shoved me and threatened me with arrest. And I was actually approaching them to hear what they had to say. I'll make sure my go pro and the rest of my camera equipment gets charged up if I ever want to try and hear their perspective ever again.

Well I got back to Ohio and realized that I recorded all of my interviews in the wrong mode on my go-pro like an incompetent jackass. So I have sped up audio free video of speaking with the protestors.
While I may not agree with all of their ideas, I have nothing negative to say about any of the people I spoke with. One of the more interesting ideas when I asked what changes a man wanted to see was bulletproof community checkpoints for members of the community to watch the police from. While I'm not certain this is an effective or realistic plan, it is clearly an idea coming from someone who is genuinely concerned about protecting their community.
Requests that they really wanted to have the sheriff come speak with leaders of their community, and to have all of the footage from the shooting released, seemed reasonable. There may be more I don't know about the sheriffs side of things, as I didn't get a chance to reach out to them while I was there.
One of the protestors I spoke with said that interactions with city police and the community had improved in his eyes in recent years. And that this incident was unusual because the sheriffs department isn't usually involved in this type of action.
I was given a date of I believe June 1st that they plan to protest in DC, I'll see if I can confirm this online and may go to film there (and hopefully not f it up this time.)

Demonstrations were very peaceful and respectful today in Elizabeth City, NC. Protestors mostly consisted of concerned members of the community. Police presence seemed friendly but perhaps large for the size and demeanor of the crowd. However organizers of the protest did say that they had larger crowds previous days. Confirmed reports with witnesses that Police arrested journalists. Those we spoke to said that those journalists were not obstructing the roadway when they were taken into custody. We were unable to speak to the police on the subject.
