Tacos Garcia is located at 150 Alkali Way in Killdeer, North Dakota. The menu features gorditas, quesadillas, and burritos. The dish in the photo is a chorizo, hash brown, and egg burrito. All made from scratch. One is inspired not to wolf it all down but savor every bite. Green and red salsa adds only slight heat, which brings the natural flavors to new heights. What a beautiful meal. Tacos Garcia is a must for any lover of good food.

Wimbledon is a small town with a strong farming community. Almost 200 call it home. The cafe and grocery store share the same roof. Right downtown - 401 Center St. There’s all that you need in the aisles of the grocery store. And at the table, appetizing weekly lunch specials and sandwich specials. Every order comes with lemonade, or milk and a free sweet treat.

I want to take you there now, to Wimbledon, North Dakota for a visit with Linda Grotberg - one of the senior folks at the cafe, and manager Amy Glasman. You’ll hear about some of the food items, but also how Wimbledon Community Grocery & Cafe become a non profit.

Mary, Vicki, Cindy and Michelle. This is team Cafe Robert. Homemade soups, sandwiches, delectable scotcheroos and salads. Located in Scheels Home & Hardware, this is quite possibly Fargo’s best kept secret lunch counter. Try the Napa, a chicken salad sandwich so delightfully scrumptious with its slivered pecans and sliced grapes that you’ll want to order one more for the road. And you should! Robert and Wanda Serr own and operate the Little Cottage Cafe in Bismarck, North Dakota. People come from all over the state to dine. Pies and kuchen, award-winning Carmel rolls, knoephla soup and fleischkuekle are the unique items on the menu. I had the soup and a BLT sandwich on my visit. Let me tell ya, home-made food does the body good🌾

I’ve been to the Cowboy Cafe many times. Usually, here’s what I order for breakfast. Two eggs basted, rye toast with peanut butter, hash browns and sometimes ham. I like to mix a little ketchup and Tabasco on my ham. Folger’s coffee only at The Cowboy Cafe, made in a big, silver industrial Bun coffee maker. It’s hot and it’s always just perfect and they never run out. The way Kevin and Beth prepare the menu is absolutely pat. The grill is well-seasoned. Nothing’s ever overdone. It’s always delicious. They’ve done this a million times.

Not too long ago I received a note from a Mr. Stevens. A very nice note, stating that I oughta take a trip to Fairdale, North Dakota, for Dakota Diners. Mr. Stevens has family ties to Fairdale. There’s a café there called The Fairdale Café — it’s the last standing business in town. Mr. Stevens went on to say that there’s a famous Thursday lunch served at the café that the Norwegian farmers love called Klub, a traditional Norwegian dumpling meal made of potatoes, flour, and eggs. Typically, one drizzles drawn butter over it. It’s hearty, hot, and delicious. Thanks for the note, Mr. Stevens.

The Wurst Shop is right off the Interstate in Dickinson, on a frontage road at 205 14th Street West. Ken Molitor is the owner. His son Casey works there, too. And they pretty much have it all. Choice cuts of beef, pork, elk, buffalo. Plus, seafood selections, and all kinds of cheeses. In addition to meats and cheeses, the Wurst Shop carries many other North Dakota food products.

I was curious about head cheese and liver sausage, and the old-fashioned way of preparing food items. I wanted to know what makes the Wurst Shop so famous, who are the patrons, what do they order. I just know you will find what Ken Molitor has to say insightful, and I hope you’ll be inspired to pay your local butcher a visit or take a trip to The Wurst Shop in Dickinson, North Dakota.

Minot, North Dakota is a beautiful town, the fourth largest in the state, located on HWY 2. The Souris river runs through it. Good food, good people, good shopping. Here are my favorite places to visit in Minot. The Scandinavian Park, the Public Library. And I love walking the old and the historic. You’ll find that downtown. That’s where I’m taking you on today’s Dakota Diners, to Prairie Sky Breads. They prepare fresh salads, sandwiches, coffee and beer, and pizzas, too. And of course bread. Dill pickle hamburger buns, sourdough dill pickle bread, oatmeal molasses, jalapeño cheddar buns, just to name a few. Plus, GF selections. They opened their store front in 2020.

You can’t miss Rockin Relics. It’s at 205 S Main downtown Rugby, North Dakota. It’s decked with old signage, checkered tablecloths and red chairs, a jukebox plays golden oldies, there’s an authentic 1940s soda fountain. Some of the sandwiches and paninis on the menu are named after famous people. I had the Ben Cartwright. He was in the TV series Bonanza. It was a chicken sandwich and it was very good.

Grab a seat at the cafe counter or take a table. There are two waitresses. They promptly greet you as you walk in and look as though they know exactly what they're doing. Together they do all the serving and they do all the cooking. Everything is fresh and made to order at the Medina Cafe. Sausage patties come from the local butcher, Reister Meats. One of the specials on the board when I visited was dumpling soup, and that did sound good, and I’d be willing to bet that the soup recipe is a local one. However, it was still morning time and I’d taken down a tip from someone who’d recently been to the Medina Cafe to get the poached eggs, because it’s hard to get poached eggs these days and the Medina Cafe are the best at it. I ordered the eggs, toast, hash browns, and coffee which came in blue mug.

Medina Cafe is located at 109 Water St W
Medina, ND 58467.

Darcy's Cafe has been around for a long time and is the cafe of cafes in Grand Forks, North Dakota. A u-shaped counter, a couple booths, a couple tables and a menu to die for. Eggs the way you like them, famous pancakes, coffee that’s always fresh and hot, or how about lunch. Let me ask you this, when’s the last time you had a good egg salad sandwich? Tater tots and coleslaw on the side🌾 Darcy’s owner Michelle “Mick” Hajicek and Grand Forks Herald columnist Marilyn Hagerty pictured with Tom Brosseau.

Darcy’s Cafe is located at 1400 11th Ave N, Grand Forks, ND 58203.

Deb Tarvestad, owner of the Hunter Cafe & Bakery in Hunter North Dakota. This year is their 20th anniversary. In our interview for Dakota Diners, she talks about how she got into running the cafe with her husband, Jim, and it all started with a suggestion. The Hunter Cafe & Bakery has a fantastic menu. Hamburgers, grilled chicken, salads, wraps, and a breakfast that suits everyone. I enjoyed a homemade donut and a cup of hot coffee while I was there. Thank you, Deb and Jim, and thanks to the town of Hunter, North Dakota.🌾

The Queen City Cafe has something for everyone. Owner Silke Rosier-Pierce and manager Brenda Curtis bring a lot of heart and personality to the table. When you’re there you feel right at home. They serve eggs and meats that come right from Aneta, North Dakota. Fruits and vegetables, too. Lots of local pride mixed into the dishes they whip up. If it’s on the menu, try the kumla. Any special of the day or week is bound to enlighten your
palette and make you smile🌾

The Page Cafe is located downtown Page, North Dakota at the heart of it all. The food is excellent and so is the service. A cafe for the whole family. One visit and you feel like a regular. Madge Dows and Cindy Workman are part of the Page Cafe Association. Both were there when I visited and are featured on the broadcast. They serve from scratch apple pie, with apples from a nearby orchard. Try it with a slice of American cheese🌾

The Let's Eat Cafe is on Main Street in New Leipzig, North Dakota. It’s a fantastic place for breakfast, for lunch, or even a pastry item, such as a jelly filled donut. All of what’s made in the kitchen at the Let’s Eat Cafe is fresh from scratch. What leftovers there may be, the owners, Marissa and Phil Sprenger, donate to neighboring schools, hospitals, and retirement homes.
