I feel like my generation is mad at the younger generation. Like we look at them like they are idiots. And that they are soft and that they are sensitive. But the problem with that is we made that generation. That generation was inside of us and we released it. - Russell Peters on Petersons podcast on "How we are breeding narcissists"

📢SCAMS & IMPERSONATION ALERT📢

Dear friends and family,

I would like to advise the following effective immediately:
1. This account is my only professional account on Facebook that I manage apart from my personal account using a different name. Any other 'Yanamlyn Yana' here as seen below in the picture are NOT ME!
2. I do not endorse crypto currency or any other investment businesses. I do not promise people to become billionaires overnight. If you receive such messages, please deal with them at your own risk or report and block them.
3. I utilise LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook to talk about issues that matter. You will know right away that a post or a message is not from me when you see one.
4. Please, screenshot and send me messages with people pretending to be me on this platform, and report them immediately.
5. FaFacebookalks about privacy but cannot even detect strangers impersonating it's users. Scary times to live in as well

Be safe online, you all.

Thank you very much.

- On this day, and every other day, I recognize that I can never be anything else, but a WOMAN and I mean this in the most magnificent way. And as I reflect on the theme for this year, 'Inspire Inclusion', I think of all WOMEN from Papua New Guinea that are left out of decision-making processes (at home, at workplace, in school, and at the highest political level), economic opportunities, and face drastic inequalities every day. The minority of our women are in positions of power and leadership, and on this lies our hope and inspiration for inclusion, including our men who advocate for us and create spaces for us to thrive.

This theme really speaks of the reality in PNG: politics, career, leadership. How many of our girls are going to school, safely, and are able to finish school? Hold your thoughts on this and you will see all other areas come into the picture: access to health, access to economic opportunities, ability and opportunity to part take in decision making, so on and so forth.

So, when you are thinking about investing in women, think about being more inclusive of women who most often get overlooked and have limited opportunities to excel, better their lives, and thrive.

Practical actions you can take to inspire inclusion this year are as follows:
1. Sponsor HER- invest in scholarship opportunities for women - many women do not get to complete their education because of lack of financial capabilities.
2. Promote HER now - as employers, you know who in your team deserves to be promoted immediately. She has put in the work, the commitment, and has brought your team results. Go ahead and promote HER.
3. Believe in HER - she needs to know you believe in HER. If you are a parent, a supervisor, a manager, a CEO, or even friend to a rockstar of a daughter, staff, either intern, junior or senior, do make sure to let her know that YOU BELIEVE IN HER and in her capabilities to be great!
4. Support HER - she will be going through some of the hardest times in her life at the same time show up for work the next day, even to a point where she is managing harassment and violence from her husband or partner. Step in to support her when she needs it the most.

We need to be practical when we talk about supporting and promoting women in all spheres of the society. We will then see the results we want to see.

I thoroughly enjoyed sharing space with the amazing Wavie Kendino Leki at BAT today.

WOMEN - you can't move the world without them!

What I have received in my inbox for the entire week has been messages of love, well wishes, and support for my birthday.

My birthday was also on the same day Papua New Guinea commemorated the day our Founding Father Late Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare flew home on high. Since then, 2021, it has been a day I get to reflect on my journey as a Papua New Guinean, and how I would like to contribute meaningfully to the success and development of this country in whatever small way and opportunity presented to me. Papa SANA led with so much Melanesian wisdom and fought, with words, passion, and integrity, for our country, and believed that we were and are capable of taking care of our own affairs.

As I am still reflecting on how best I want to help my beautiful country, I see so many opportunities to give back, to take part in, and to take ownership of how I want PNG to be, living up to its fullest potential. I am reminded that I live to lead, and lead in a way that serves my fellow people more. I am reminded that living, leading, and serving go hand in hand. And at such a time as this with the unique opportunities presented to us as a nation, we can either sit back and complain until the cows fly, or we can take our shovels and get to work, so that we can see better days for our children and their children.

I strongly believe in the collective efforts of every citizen of this country when we continue to live by good values and lead by good values. We have been blessed with a nation of our own, and now it is up to us to make it what we all want it to be - better every day for everyone.

Let us see PNG in a place where our youths are supported with the best opportunities, our health care system is stronger than ever before, our children receiving world class education, our land waters and seas providing us with what we need, and every individual enjoying an opportunity, whether big or small, to better their lives. Then, let us work towards it - a safe, healthy, and wealthy nation. As they say, we cannot achieve it if we cannot see it.

And if you have followed my journey for quite a while, I jump at any opportunity I believe has the potential to impact our lives and nation. And this opportunity is something you can take ownership of and invest in, for yourself and for your organization.

I would like to invite you to be part of this event. It is a 1 Day Leadership Conference and Personal Growth Experience. I encourage you to take ownership of this opportunity to invest in yourself, your team members, and connect with potential clients.

Today is my birthday but it is also 'SANA Day' as I'd like to call it.
Here is a tribute I wrote in 2021 as soon as I heard of the passing of Late Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare.

Sana,
the sun did not rise as it used to
it knew it won't shine on you
the heavens above mourned heavily
its tears rushing down streams
sweeping away all in its way
the clouds are low today
as if they want to get a glimpse of you
laying in your bed
to make sure it truly is true
that you are no more

Sana,
you fought for your people
the Melanesian people of PNG
it did not take years
for you to be granted self governance status
they may say it was given on a golden plate
but I say not one will ever comprehend sleepless nights
you endured to make sure we were free people

Sana,
free people do not ask for freedom
they claim it
and you did
bringing together thousand tribes
to co-exist with each other

Sana,
we are free people
do not worry
rest well Melanesia Warrior
know that we are free
as our ancestors were
as our forefathers were

Sana,
this is our land
of high mountains
of swaying palms
and coral seas
in its fullest splendor
people are in awe
as to ask 'where did this paradise emerge from?'

Sana,
the spirits of the land, the sea and the mountains
of our great great ancestors
as they watched you when your Mama gave birth to you
as they watched you when you grew up
as they watched you when you fought for us
as they watched you when you stood on the Independence Hill
and as now they watch you
when you are taken to the sky above
by the Great Mighty Spirit of God

Sana,
as a Kwila you stood
strong and firm, immovable
Now as a Kumul you fly
Fly so high proudly
Into your heavenly home

Sana,
be rest assured
that your legacy lives on

Sana,
THE MELANESIAN DREAM LIVES ON!

This is so true.

Love and Sacrifice go hand in hand. One has to be willing to sacrifice for what they love, may it be family, dream, job, home, or other things one wants to pursue in life. I hope you have a day that's filled with moments of warmth from loved ones, satisfaction of goals achieved, and plans to make life better for you and your family. There is a price to pay for everything, and it takes courage, grit, and hard work to get to that dream life.

Remember, do not make things complicated for yourself or for your loved ones. If you love it, go for it, work for it, sacrifice for it, or even put a ring on it 🤭.

The greatest example of loving unconditionally is to lay down one's life for the service of others.

National Capital District, you have shot yourself in the foot and you fought the wrong enemy. The business houses were not the enemy. They are the major creator of employment. Now, hundreds of families will suffer because shops have been looted, destroyed or burnt.

With the help of the security forces coming in from other centres, expect a total lockdown or arrests. And again, some people will have to pay the price for causing chaos by taking advantage of a very weak situation. It will be severe by the looks of it because not only did people loot. They burnt down buildings and there were some killings too.

I hope this was eye opening for the government, especially. And I hope the NCD government knows that it's time for the most talked about Vagrancy Act to be implemented. If we cannot be responsible citizens in our city, we might as well go back home and work the land.

A sad day for

Being on a podcast was something new I did this year, and I thank Shawk23 for the interview. I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone (that's always behind the camera and in the comfort of my home) to be in front of the camera. I am sure many people have their own experiences to share and I hope that they get to share their stories on such platforms so we have more positive stories to encourage us to go a step further. If you ever have the opportunity to share yours, do take the opportunity, and tell your truth.

This was one of the many things I accomplished as my 'first' for this year.

There are so many blessings I am thankful for, and only God is glorified for it. I am beyond grateful 🙏🏿.

I wish everyone a fruitful new year 🎊🕛

One cannot say they support women and the rights of women while making a mockery out of every possible effort towards the cause. It's impossible to support the cause when one doesn't believe in it.

Drink water where your horse drinks, a horse will never drink bad water. Make your bed where the cat sleeps peacefully. Eat fruit touched by a worm. It fearlessly collects mushrooms on which insects perch. Plant a tree dug by the mole. Dig a hole where the birds hide from the heat. Sleep and wake up at the same time as the birds, you will reap the golden grains of life. Eat more greens, you will have stronger legs and a resilient heart like the spirit of the forests. Look at the sky more often and talk less so that silence can enter your heart. and your soul is calm and your life is peaceful.

We see so much negativity on Social Media, but what we most often overlook is its potential to bring about positive change.

If you are keen, do read a little article I put together for PAYA's blog.

🇵🇬❤️

PAYA’s Manager of Partnerships, Yanamlyn Yana, shares with us a story on the power of social media - how she raised funds to save a local hospital in Papua New Guinea 🏥🇵🇬

👉 “It is my aspiration that soon, people, especially young people, will push forth positive change by collectively doing it. I know what it feels like to have something, and I know exactly what it feels like to have absolutely nothing. I will share a story and I hope it reminds us of the value we bring to other people’s lives through adverse times.” ✨

'Are your people better off because you are their leader or are you better off because they are your people?' was the question John C. Maxwell asked the Members of the Papua New Guinea Parliament last year.

What a powerful statement for all leaders in all sectors to consider, not just the politicians.

Hey you beautiful people!

It has been a minute, and I am so thankful that you keep riding with me.

It is a wonderful opportunity that I could bring you another guest for our Live conversation, exclusively here on Conscious Kumul.

You may have seen the three gentlemen who are co-hosts of Podcast? Yes. And I get to interview one of the three hosts, Richard Aitsi.

About our guest: Richard Aitsi (Richie) is from Kairuku, Central Province. Richard shares, 'my mother is half Yule Island and the other half we are not 100% certain on due to WWII and a missing grandfather. My father is from Bereina town and was born in Wewak'.

Richard did his primary schooling at East Boroko and St Joseph’s in Port Moresby before moving to Brisbane to do high school at Nudgee College. He then studied at QUT and USC before landing a job as a consultant with a supply chain consultancy called TMX Transform.

When I first came across the podcast here on , I thought it was interesting to see three Papua New Guineans telling stories about their home and sharing that with the rest of us. I could relate to most of their contents, and I did not hesitate to reach out to bring them on this platform.

One thing I promote on this platform is the contents we create, especially if it's to educate as well as make people think and laugh at the same time. The Unkles Podcast is doing just that, and I am glad Richie agreed to share an hour of conversation with us here on Live with Conscious Kumul.

We will be focusing our conversation on getting to know the podcast and hear about how Richie is navigating life as one of the hosts of a PNG focused podcast, and must I add, a podcast that is gaining momentum and following, and more.

I would like to invite you to tune in and join us on Thursday, 28th September 2023, from 8PM-9PM PGT.

When I was a young adult leader at my church, I used to praise and worship with my fellow brothers, strumming guitar. It was a first for a woman to be strumming guitar upfront, so of course a lot of leaders and members alike felt uncomfortable having a young girl lead with the boys. I could sense it. The only intention I had was to worship my God with this talent. I felt really discouraged one Sunday afternoon when I could sense they didn't approve of it. My mother saw it and said , 'your intentions are pure and your heart is true. How people react to that is none of your business. Keep strumming guitar at church'. Her words were like someone took a crown and placed it on my head and said , "look up"!

You can only do your best and know that it's appreciated, valued, and respected. You can't please everyone, and that's not your fault.

🇵🇬🇵🇬🇵🇬🇵🇬🇵🇬🇵🇬🇵🇬🇵🇬🇵🇬
I could not help but ponder upon the words of one of my mentors and a leader of this country, and it makes more sense when I delve more into it. I thought I should reshare Ruth Kissam Tindiwi's words here again, to remind us, that we are an ancient people with ancient roots, and that this age old land is OUR HOME 🏠

"..the birth of this ancient thousand-tribed-nation didn't start 43 years ago.  The history of this country didn't start with the 'first contact' nor did it start with our colonizers relinquishing their self-imposed rule on us 43 years ago. We've been here, custodians of the sunrise, gatekeepers of time long before anyone else thought to venture down south of the equator, to this side of the hemisphere.

We are amongst the oldest people on the planet, speaking one sixth of the world's languages making us the most linguistically diverse country in the world.

Researchers have found we (Melanesians) carry a DNA unknown to science, neither denisovian nor neanderthal which places us on the threshold of history as the missing link.

We might be amongst the first wave of peoples on the planet to cultivate crops when the rest of humanity lived in caves and ate wild berries. We might be amongst the first peoples to build ocean going liners populating islands when everyone else thought the world was flat and couldn't venture further out into the oceans for fear of falling off the 'edge'..

Our story didn't start 43 years ago, it might have started 43,000 years ago on the land of Sahul. Until and unless we write our own narrative, we will be living out someone else's script thinking it's ours.

So while we celebrate a tiny part of our long existence, remember our

story goes beyond the last 43 years, we must wear our 'bilas' with pride to honor our culture and pasin tumbuna.

That is our narrative and that has to be celebrated".

So I join Ruth and say, "here's to the most amazing people in the planet ".

Words by Ruth Kissam Tindiwi, 2018, Sept 14.

It is good to see two countries, New Zealand 🇳🇿 and Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 embrace each other's cultures.

In PNG, many who say they are leaders, are followers. Only a few actually lead, and you will recognise them immediately because they stand out from the rest. We are competing for positions on our death bed, and we forget that we have a generation to nurture, direct, and guide so that they can shoulder the future of this country. How many of the people who say they are leaders are ready to mentor the young ones, and be comfortable giving up their spaces for young leaders? I only know a handful of Papua New Guineans, and I'd say they are incredible mentors. Leadership is about people, not position.

09/09/2023

Leadership is mentoring someone to succeed you and trusting them to deliver. It's also throwing them in the deep end to learn new things and throwing them the rope to get back onshore. A leader leads other leaders, not followers. If a leader has followers, he/is not doing it right

The people of Yambona, Kaintiba Rural LLG are the first people in the hinterland of Gulf province to see the team at work. This picture was taken by Jr Barnabas who is part of the team constructing the road, showing the bulldozer crossing the village arena (basketball court) to go to the other side of the village to continue construction of the road.

As a daughter of my people and village, I can honestly say that the people of Kaintiba are some of the most resilient people on the face of the planet. They have survived without government support for ages, have worked hard on their land, have saved up little by little, and have sent their children to school regardless of all the odds against them.

Now, they are ready to trade with the outside world and are ready to grasp all the opportunities this road will bring, and are also working to make sure they are ready to minimise the bad that is expected to come with this new change.

One thing I admired about the Yambona people and how kind and caring they were was this: they stood gently and watched the men do their jobs, even if it means bulldozing through a few gardens or through a few pandanus trees. I believe they are looking forward to the long term benefits this change will bring. They carried themselves pretty well. I hear our guests feel right at home.

Oh arise, Yambona
Oh arise Kaintiba
Or arise, PNG

God bless Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬
