What are new polar bear families likely doing right now? Snuggling in a maternity den! Wild polar bear cubs are most often born in December, and they'll remain in the den until March or early April. During her entire time in the den—four to eight months—the mother doesn't eat or drink. Her sole purpose is to provide for her cubs and to help them grow strong enough to venture out onto the sea ice come spring.
