DELPHI STAFFERS TAKE 2ND
IN NATIONAL VIDEO CONTEST

A team of Del Val journalists has placed second in national competition with a 30-second video on the theme “The First Amendment Never Goes out of Style.”

The contest is conducted annually by SchoolJournalism.org, an affiliate of the American Society of News Editors.

The Del Val team, all Delphi staffers, consisted of Abbie Simpson, Emma Haig, and Julia Hirsch, who appeared on screen to celebrate freedom of religion, freedom of speech, the right to assemble, the right to petition the government, and freedom of the press. They crammed a lot into a sassy 30 seconds. Their advisor is Brian Smith.

“Our judges felt that this PSA creatively adhered to the contest’s theme and rules with a well-researched solid concept. They also noted that the specific historical examples give viewers topics to dig into more and it also highlights the importance of doing research to create a solid PSA,” the contest coordinators announced.

The students will receive $50 in Amazon gift cards, courtesy of the media studies program at East Central College, Union, Mo., along with a box of prizes from SchoolJournalism.org, East Central College’s Media Studies Program, and the Academy of Scholastic Broadcasting.
