Hello everyone!

It’s been a bit. In true Afropope fashion, I went on a hiatus without letting anyone know. I’m sorry. I keep doing this. But life keeps getting in the way.

Last month I started to pursue a Reasonable Disability Accommodation at my job due to my Long Covid symptoms worsening. In April, I got sick with what my doctor diagnosed with flu. However, I had a very painful sore throat that never resolved. Adding to my symptoms baseline, my voice is gone after an hour or two or use daily. My work transitioned into a call center in February and even though we were told in hiring we would be on phones a max of 1-2 hours a day, it’s 3-6 on average and I cannot do it. I tried for months before pursuing this course.

My work threw me on an unpaid leave involuntarily and without warning. I had savings and credit built up to deal possible unemployment, but getting blindsided mid month was not something I had expected. After waiting two weeks for the paperwork to finalize, my company denied the accomodation outright and stated that any accomodation related to phone shifts would not be accepted.

In the same week my car started to really make a bad rattling noise under the hood. I got estimates from multiple places and ended up having to replace a water pump for $1400, two wheel bearings and hubs for $2K, and still have pending things that aren’t so critical to deal with like an AC compressor.

My savings were entirely wiped out. I had to beg the same company who were fighting with me over email about the process to allow me to empty my 401K to pay rent and my other bills.

I started a gofundme primarily because we cannot afford to be homeless, or have anything on our record about late rent. I have a hard time asking for help but I had no other choice.

I’m keeping it up because I’m still on the leave right now. My doctor and I agreed to stop the accommodation process because I cannot handle it financially or physically. I’ve been told by legal consultants that I have a possible case against my employer, but I lack the funds and stamina for a trial.

I know times are tough and I don’t want anyone to pitch in if it would harm them. Just viewing or even sharing helps.

I would like to return to streaming soon but I’m gonna have to get a new job. I have a few prospects I’m confident about, but for the time being, need to use my limited strength to navigate this process. I also have to figure out how to heal my throat and voice before I can stream my normal timeframes.
