Last month marked 5 years that I’ve been in the United States. I was just an 18 year old Nigerian girl who trusted in God and had a supportive family. In January 2019, when I landed in Dulles, Washington DC, I didn’t have anything figured out, even my college major, but I knew that if I followed God’s leading, I’ll find my path and purpose. 5 years have birthed so much in me. I started and completed 4 years of college, had 2 internships at major tech companies (Mastercard and Microsoft), and this week I celebrated my 1 year work anniversary at Microsoft, the most valuable company in the world. Honestly, you may think I’m a very impressive young woman and I can’t deny that. But everything I am, everything I have, is because of my Heavenly Father. The way I think, my talents, my skills, my friendships, my job, and everything really are the blessings of God upon my life. Each season, God adds beauty and splendor to my life, aligning with my purpose. I am a girl wholeheartedly devoted to and dependent on the goodness and mercy of God. I refuse to downplay His blessings because I yearn for more. Instead, I choose to live in gratitude, walking alongside Him to achieve what He has ordained for each chapter of my life. Reflecting on these five years, I’ve cultivated beautiful friendships, had a transformed heart posture, received financial provision, and encountered countless opportunities. Truly, I am a girl who is loved and helped by a good God.
If there’s one lesson I hope you take from my journey, it’s this: cultivate a personal relationship with God. Surrender daily, walk with God to fulfill your unique purpose. The journey won’t be perfect, but it will be the best journey you’ll ever embark upon. Remember to remain humble, open, and transparent with God—it’s the only way to become who He has called you to be.
Abba, I love you so so much!
I’ll end this with my favorite Bible verse that keeps me grounded. Proverbs 3:5-6 ”Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.“ ❤️
