Georgia Gwinnett College’s athletes saw wins in every game this week. The softball and baseball teams swept their respective opponents in doubleheaders away from home. The women’s tennis team extended their unbeaten streak while the men’s team rested and prepared for upcoming games.

Sunday Sports Recap: Tennis Sweeps & Tight Scores

GGC Weekly Recap – 3/10 – 3/16:
Georgia Gwinnett College’s athletic programs saw varying results in several entertaining games throughout the week. The softball team began their week by traveling to Middle Georgia State and ended it by celebrating their senior players with a doubleheader sweep on Senior Day. The baseball team played some tight games and saw a record-breaking home run, and the tennis teams continued their unbeaten season with dominating sweeps during the week.

Georgia Gwinnett College’s athletes traveled, swept, and celebrated during spring break. During the week, the softball team went to Kentucky to play a series against Cumberlands. The baseball team recorded a season-high score and won all of their games, and the women’s and men’s tennis teams saw several sweeps in the Grizzly Spring Break Invitational.

On Thursday, September 28th, the Faculty Senate tabled a friendly amendment that would mandate a 6-week mediation period with the University System of Georgia (USG) before a faculty-wide no-confidence vote in President Jann Joseph, Senior Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs/Provost George Low, and Chief of Staff Katherine Kyle.

On Tuesday, September 26th, Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) began the next phase of the campus paving project with the closure of gravel parking lot A. The lot located in front of the A Building at the corner of Collins Hill Industrial and University Center Lane will be closed through December.

On Tuesday Sept. 19, the Hispanic Achievers Committed to Excellence in Results (HACER) and Organization of Latin American Students (OLAS) held a celebration event for Hispanic Heritage Month in front of the Kaufman Library. Students, faculty and staff participated in the celebration which featured an art exhibition, Latin music and traditional foods.

On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, Georgia Gwinnett College’s (GGC) president, Jann L. Joseph, is hosting a town hall from 2:00 to 3:15 PM in the Large Venue Interactive Space (LVIS).

Students, faculty, staff, and administrators are encouraged to wear GGC green to show support for GGC's mission and vision and to foster unity regardless of disagreements on how to get there.

On Wednesday, March 15th, in CISCO auditorium Spanish Film Club and Hispanic Achievers Committed to Excellence in Results (HACER) presented the film, “Pan’s Labyrinth” (2006). The presentation is the second in a three-part movie series, during the semester, curated to teach about the filmography of Guillermo del Toro.

For students who missed this film, but want to catch the final film presentation, “The Shape of Water” (2017), should mark their calendars for Tuesday, April 11th, at 5:00 pm in the CISCO auditorium.

During the fall semester of 2022, Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) started an after school program for historically underserved elementary school students. The program is available right now to students from Jenkins Elementary School and Lawrenceville Elementary School in grades 3-5.

The program is designed to expand the school day, offering students a number of activities, as well as a chance to get further academic help in subjects such as math and science. The activities in the program include: STEM programming, financial literacy, music, art, physical fitness, journalism and more.

On Tuesday, February 21st, the Greenlight activities board hosted a Mardi Gras Bash in the Game Room of E building from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event featured Mardi Gras inspired food catered by Aladdin from GGC’s Dining Hall, and a live performance from GGC Percussion.

Students were introduced to Mardi Gras jazz, provided themed refreshments, and given masks to decorate with markers, glitter, and feathers.
