The next Gallery 6 Night, a vibrant and unpredictable blend of words and music will take place at 6pm on Friday 10th March. The venue is Leslie Stones’s Gallery 6 at 6 Victoria Road, Scarborough.

The show will feature ‘The Blow-ins’, Charlotte Oliver and ‘Claire’. Tickets are £5 each, including a glass of wine or soft drink.

‘The Blow-ins’ - Bridget Cousins and Phil Bennett blend harp, guitar and two contrasting voices to create a tender, melodic and distinctive sound, encompassing folk and modern, humour, passion and protest. They have been described as “one of the North Yorkshire folk scene’s best kept secrets”.

Claire’ - Claire Ward - is a multi-media imagemaker whose creative process involves art, poetry and live performance. Assisted by Rob Tyson, she will be presenting a new work, ‘Time’ and an exhibition of her work will be showing at the gallery throughout March.

Charlotte Oliver is BBC Radio York’s Saturday Poet Laureate and her poetry has been published widely in journals and anthologies. Her first collection, ‘How to be a Dressing Gown’, published in 2022, was commended for its “poems of breath-taking power”.

Event organiser Felix Hodcroft says “our adventurous mix of performers and our friendly, intimate atmosphere are what make our quarterly Gallery 6 Nights different from any other local event. You’re never quite sure what to expect, though you can be sure it will be great value for your money and your time.”

Gallery 6 Nights - 6pm to 8.30pm on Friday 18th November

Announcing an adventurous, unpredictable blend of spoken word and music performance in an atmospheric gallery on a winter’s evening in Scarborough.

The show will feature

• a revelatory reinterpretation of the poems of local artist and writer Jo Reed Turner, performed by a group of local performer-poets Suzie Millar, Jane Sudworth, Rob Tyson and Sue Wilson;

• songs and music from acclaimed Scarborough singer songwriter Luke Barker, including his Christmas classic, ‘For Christmas’ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BfWKGXADmE;

Signed copies of the book, published by Esplanade Press, will be available at a special discounted price of just £5 on the night (RRP £8).

The show will also feature a short tribute to much-loved local playwright, actress and writer Rosie Larner, who died recently.

I caught up with Scarborough’s very own poetic tour de force Felix Hodcroft. He tells us all about what’s happening tomorrow in the Shuttleworth Gardens.

He mentions bringing a drink, as long as it’s a soft drink.

Sorry for all the fantastics.
