THE REAL HISTORY OF ALPHA KAPPA RHO
(Original post from Jun Labo Pasaporte Elite Group)
Alpha Kappa Rho
During the 1st semester of School Year 1973-74, some Notre Damers of Caloocan batch 1973 and neighbors from the University Hills Subdivision also in Caloocan went to College of Commerce at the University Of Santo Tomas, Espana, Manila. There they met their Fellow Notre Damer Jose “Boy” Chua who was then taking Medicine along with his best friend Renato”Ato” Go, a very brilliant medicine student.
They were always together like one big happy family back then and were very close to each other that made them popular inside the campus and were being eyed as prospective neophytes by some organizations as well as fraternities. Martial Law was just declared by then President Ferdinand Marcos all over the land and fraternities were banned during those days. Fraternities and sororities were then operating underground.
So instead of joining a fraternity or other organizations, the 16 UST Students decided to form their own fraternity on August 8, 1973 at the University of Santo Tomas, headed by Founding Father Jose “Boy” Chua and they named their fraternity Alpha Kappa Rho.

Just a few days after Alpha Kappa Rho aka AKRHO, AKP, Skeptron Brotherhood was founded they started their massive recruitment inside the UST Campus and University of the East Recto as well as in their neighborhood at the University Hills Caloocan. They successfully recruited more than half of the students of the Notre Dame High School Caloocan batch 1973 who were then enrolled in different Colleges and Universities in Metro Manila.
AKP’s rapid growth all over the UST Campus made their strong presence felt by the big and old fraternities inside the four corners of UST such as Fratofco and Beta Sigma. Fratofco was then the biggest and ruling fraternity in UST, it was an alliance of 3 big Engineering Fraternities such as Kappa Kappa (1948), Sigma Beta (1950) and Tau Mu Epsilon (1952). They tried to stop the growth of AKP to no avail the 16 AKP founders together with their newly recruited brothers stood their ground and defended their fraternity and the rest is history.
Two years later, in 1975, also in UST the AKP Sorority was formed at the College of Commerce by AKP Founding Mothers …
1. FM Girlie Tesoro (deceased)
2. FM Joyce Gregorio
3. FM Alda Altiveros
4. FM Marissa Comuyog
5. FM Irene Ileto
6. FM JJ Aquino (deceased)
That same year in 1975, Rey Quitoriano, a Notre Damer was chanced upon by his batch 1973 classmates at the UE Student Canteen, he was immediately recruited to Alpha Kappa Rho. On the day of his Final Rites, he brought with him 2 neophytes, his classmates Noriel Arcadio and the late great Jun “Labo” Pasaporte. And they started their recruitment as soon as they survived the Final initiation. The UE Skeptrons noticed something unusual, the trio, were recruiting High School students and they were surprised to find out that they were only high schools students. The AKP-UE Recto Chapter immediately informed the AKP-UST Mother Chapter about that. At first, the Mother Chapter was hesitant to accept high school student since AKP was a Collegiate Service Fraternity and was limited to College students only.
So, while UE Chapter was waiting for the Mother Chapter’s approval of their petition, they used the name Delta Kappa Rho for the meantime until it was approved a few months later and AKP Junior was born in July 29, 1975 making Brod Noriel Arcadio, Brod Rey Quitoriano and Brod Jun “Labo” Pasaporte the Junior Founding Fathers of the Alpha Kappa Rho Junior.
There are Urban Legends surrounding Brod Jun “Labo” Pasaporte…
1. He was a quitter of TGP
- it is just an urban legend, how can he join TGP, when TGP Junior was not yet been founded by Boyet Gorospe when Junior FF Jun Pasaporte joined AKP.
- TGP Junior was founded at San Beda High School and Junior FF Jun Pasaporte was studying in UE Recto.
- TGP Junior was not yet established in UE Recto when Junior FF Jun Pasaporte founded DKP that later became AKP Junior.
- The time table says that it is impossible for Junior FF Jun Pasaporte to join the TGP Junior prior to joining AKP and founding the AKP Junior.
2. He was a cripple
- another urban legend, that he was crippled because he was forced to jump from the 13th floor of one of the buildings in UST because he was being chased by his rival fraternity.
a) There is no such thing as 13th floor in any buildings in the Philippines.
b) The tallest building in UST during those days only has 6 floors.
c) No human will ever live from a fall coming from the 3rd floor of a building and beyond.
d) Junior FF Jun Pasaporte was not a cripple he doesn’t have any physical disability. He was then very active in defending AKP particularly at the University Belt Area during the 70s Ubelt Fratwars, he won’t be able to do that if he was a cripple.
e) He studied in UE Recto and not UST.
3. His death was frat related…
- a big NO… He died from heart attack in his home in Pangasinan, in 2003.
4. He was brutally beaten black and blue in one of the frat wars he was involved at the Governor Forbes Street beside UST…
- He was never harmed during a fight in his whole life. His pretty face never had a bruise nor a scar in his life time.
Some time in 1976, some of the AKP founders transferred from UST to San Sebastian College Recoletos or SSCR, there they met the Omega Fraternity and Sorority Inc better known as OFSI and became an allied force in San Sebastian aka Baste. Soon later, AKP and OFSI decided to merge their groups in Baste and agreed upon to drop the name of OFSI and use the OFSI's hand shake (Brod Alex Ramirez's concept), hand sign and burned mark or ritwal.
Before the so-called merging, AKP's handshake was just a simple firm right hand grip since there were only 16 members back then so there's no need for them to identify themselves via secret handshakes. Then later as they grew in number they started using the firm right hand shake and the pinky finger out of the grip folded under the clasped hand (handshakes commonly used by almost all the fraternities in the USA since the 1920s).
AKP don't use hand signs before the merging, they used handkerchiefs wrapped around their wrist to identify themselves. And no burned mark as well.
Also in 1976, another fraternity, this time in UE Recto also merged with AKP, the Zeta Upsilon.
Alpha Kappa Rho was formed to promote brotherhood among its members and harmony with other Fraternities and Sororities. And spread humanitarian love, unity and peace around the globe.
Alpha Kappa Rho will always be guided by its 13 Sacred Doctrines.
Long Live Mighty Skeptrons!!!
Long Live Alpha Kappa Rho!!!
