A lot to unpack in this post, but I'll try to be concise.

Ive noticed a lot of friends bouncing to Bluesky. Bluesky is hardly an alternative, it's just the same thing, the same tired, centralized, curated algorithm, in a new package. The first image in the carousel is a simple map of the Fediverse. Mastodon is one of the platforms there. You can choose an instance that suits you, or one local, while still associating with those outside your instance. My personal profile is on kolektiva.social, which is niche to my specific political view, but given that I don't care about online validation, when I am a human and live life offline, I'm still not concerned with returning to personal social media use. I'll get around to finding a pod to host the distro on, but it will also remain on the META platform as it is a necessary evil.

Next up, Firefox. Now, I have been using Mozilla products pretty much since day one. When Google came out with Gmail, it was invite only, and I joined, then they came out with Chrome, and I started using that, now they control almost every aspect of our digital lives outside of the METAverse. That's going to be changing, I'm going to go back to my roots. Mozilla is very security and privacy driven, and you are not the product to be confronted with a barrage of advertisements due to an algorithm that can seem to be able to read your thoughts.

Next, I've mentioned Subvert. It is still in the works, but it is slated to be the cooperatively owned alternative to Bandcamp, because fk Bandcamp.

The 5th is pretty much me. There's a reason for the things that I have on.

6th, I'm gonna try out a new mailer this week, and see how I feel about it.

Not pictured is the fact that we do have some titles coming in. There's only one other title coming in with the Judge shipment this week, because it was requested. There will be a few others in the coming weeks.

Anyway, that's all for now. I have an hour to get another 2,200 xp on Duolingo, so I can finish in 1st again.

Scowl has a new album coming out, and it is, as expected, a testament to their musical and lyrical prowess. Taking a little of the edge off, maybe, but still very capable of ripping out your heart and feeding it to you.

It is at press, which means we have already put in for our inventory, and are subsequently releasing a limited number for pre-order. Copies will be available 04/04/2025.

Some things which have been in the shop, but not been posted about...

I hesitated in July, when I got the notification to put in to stock this, and ended up waiting until November, when making sure we had a big enough inventory order from the distributor, because that's how the biz works...I don't make the rules, I just pretend to play by them and you pretend to believe me, because that's how this works, that's how all of this works 😉

I may have accidentally ordered, and subsequently opened, a 2nd copy of The Mutts Nuts, because I thought it was Speed Kills, so if you are at want, or need, for an unplayed, but open copy, of that, hit me up.

2025, it's like 2024, but 2025...new year, same old dog and pony show, Spite against the status quo. Now that I've had the day to sit around and process the second week in a row with a day off right in the middle of the week, I figured I'd make a new year post about how what year it is happens to be entirely meaningless, given the history of calendars, how what I want in the new year is the same as it always is, to see the yet unfulfilled matters of the heart/mind successfully attended to (eyeroll). Anyway, there's some stuff coming in in a few weeks. While I did have to back out of a deal, taking 2nd chair to a foreign label on an American release, that I calculated as the equivalent of throwing away money, I do have stuff I'm trying to bring to fruition in 2025. So, cheers to the new year, and whatever other well wishes and formalities, etcetera, etcetera, ad infinitum, ad nauseum, and so on, and so forth, blah, blah, blah.

Obligatory annual post...it's been an incredibly long, and mentally exhausting, year, but in the blink of an eye it was over, and we're still here. What better way to spend the last day of the year, than playing some Zelda TOTK (almost done), then going out to Music City Hot Chicken with some friends and acquaintances in the evening. Be safe, the amateurs, as always, are ever in abundance, and remember, records are cheaper (you know where that link is) that attorneys, court fines, and/or medical bills, so if you imbibe, have a plan. There has been a delay with the label getting the vinyl in from the plant. I have been told that we're looking at early next week, with a release date of Friday, December 20th, now, which is also reflected on the Revelation Records shop page for this title: https://revhq.com/products/judge-chung-king-can-suck-it. As disappointing as this is, I will do everything I can to expedite the pre-orders we have received. We're functionally sold out of the first press, but will have copies left over once we have filled our existing pre-orders. Sorry for the inconvenience, it is beyond my control

In other news, yet another shipment, this time from a larger label, arrived damaged, putting me down three titles iI was looking forward to adding. This is fine, I still have at least 8 other titles on deck when this album finally comes in.

Yep, as scheduled, we have returned for more (ir)regularly scheduled bs.

Speaking of, while reviewing the titles sitting in the back end of the shop, I have made an executive decision not to go live with them until the Judge records are in. I'm apparently sitting on a proverbial mountain of inventory, and I curated a diverse list of additional titles when I put in for the Judge records. Logically, to me, at least, it follows that everything go live at once.

There are, of course, titles in the back end, which have been here for over a year, and are permanently in limbo since the label decided to clearance them.

Obligatory annual post, and day earlier than normal this time, though.

It was decided, on day one, that Spite Records Ltd would participate in Buy Nothing Day. This is neither good, nor bad, for business, and the explanation for that is multifaceted. First, to be open for business, as sales are happening earlier and earlier every year, we would not be able to compete, as we already have the lowest prices of anyone. Second, closing allows others who remain open to have visibility. But really, the values of Spite Records Ltd are against the madness of consumption, against the fomo one is forced to have by not securing the latest thing, and against the false inflation being driven external to our scene. Going further, this participating by not participating, deals with values over the environmental impact we have, as a business, and g3noc¡d3 happening in a few parts of the globe, most notably, Palestine. You are free to disagree in your own mind. What does it accomplish? That's a matter of varied opinions.

We have several titles hidden in the back end of the shop, which will be available when it reopens at midnight MST on Tuesday.

07/03/2004, never forget! Today marks 20yrs since one of the greatest moments in hxc history. I remember sitting in front of the computer a few days after it happened, going through emails from bands needing shows in Colorado, and opened the forums to see the footage pinned right at the top. It stopped me dead in my tracks, I called everyone I could so we could all enjoy the moment. Black Flag was my introduction to punk music. I had been exposed to it in television and film, but it was always background noise to a scene, never something which stood alone as a feature. I was 14, into grunge, by way of what the radio was calling "alternative rock," and had just started playing guitar. I went to the local library to peruse their rock section, hoping to find something similar to Nirvana. I went alphabetically, and when I found Damaged, the cover spoke to me on a number of personal levels. Then came the self titled debut from The Clash, and it seemed to speak to me, and finally, the last album from the Ramones, ¡Adios Amigos! I snagged all three from the shelves, went to a listening station, and from the moment Rise Above hit I was forever changed. Black Flag remains my favorite band (nevermind a couple albums not really worth naming), Damaged remains my favorite album from start to finish, and Rollins is my favorite vocalist. I'm not in the book, of course, but I decided to make a little tribute to it. The stencil, which is signed by the end of the video, was a one off three layer stencil I did many years ago, and is from a picture of Henry's debut gig that Edward Colver had managed to capture. Coincidentally, the music had no working title, so the guys had named the file, Punishing Backwards Rednecks, and that makes for great irony. #mlk
