Platinum #84: Final Fantasy VII (PS4)

Grind: 5/10
The main grind for me is getting all the limit break for all characters. Some of the last limit breaks are acquired via mini games or mini quests so it is best to follow a guide for efficient playthrough. Aside from the required levelling up of one character to 99, anothery grindy trophy is obtaining 99,999,999 gil. Finished the list around 30 hours.

Difficulty: 3/10
There are game modifiers available that greatly affects the difficulty of the game. I personally used it as this is just a story refresher for me for the upcoming FF7 Rebirth. Obtaining Omnislash item is a bit tricky to obtain because the Golden Saucer Battle Square's handicap is random based. Difficulty will greatly go up if game modifiers are not used.

Fun: 8/10
Arguably the most iconic in the Final fantasy Franchise. Much has been said about this game so I won't elaborate it here. It's just really awesome to revisit again the old school Midgar and the classic areas of the game with its nostalgic music.

At last, it's Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launch week!

Platinum #83: Thymesia (PS5)

Grind: 4/10
There are no real missables in this game except for the collectibles found in the tutorial section. Once missed, you will need to start over to get it. Corvus has the ability to learn the skills of enemies and it is required need to get all available ones. You need to grind to level up to the max unless you use the experience exploit. Finished the list around 20 hours.


Difficulty: 5/10
The unique mechanic in the game is the enemies' two HP bars. One represents heath and the other one is the wound. If you wait too long, the wound will recover into HP that lengthens the combat. The key is in planning when to use the right move in every situation. A bit of a learning curve but gets easier as you progress.

Fun: 7.5/10
I was craving for some soulslike action and good thing this is available in gamePlaystation Plus. The fun part is learning and exploring the skills of the enemies and some of it are so OP. This game has no stamina mechanic like Sekiro so you can expect fast paced action. World building and story is quite bland IMO.

Another soulslike game off the list!

Thymesia Tutorial Boss Fight: Varg (Parry mode)

You will be rewarded with the "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!" trophy when you are able to defeat the tutorial boss.

What makes this the hardest trophy 🏆 in the game for me is that there is no checkpoint for this boss fight. When you are defeated, the only way for you to fight the tutorial boss again is to restart the game from the top.

Platinum #82: What Remains of Edith Finch (PS4/PS5)

Grind & Difficulty: 1/10
This is a walking simulator game about discovering and exploring the mystery of the house of Finch. There are no collectibles in this game. There should be no trouble in completing the trophy list as long as you complete all available story line. Once done, "Story Replay" will be available to clean up all remaining trophies. Finished the list around 2 hours.

Fun: 8.5/10
Discovered the game because of The Gamesilog Show and the local gaming community's review about it. This is a perfect game for me after finishing a JRPG. I did not fully absorb the story at first so I played the PS4 version to replay the story immediately. The clever and imaginative way of telling stories and its art direction are the selling points of this game, along with the strange yet charming architecture of the Finch House.

Another Indie game worth playing. What I felt after the ending of the game was like the same feeling after finishing a great movie.

Platinum #81: Sea of Stars (PS5)

Grind: 5/10
There are a lot of collectibles in this game. You need to find every single treasure (60), cook all the recipes (26), and catch every fish species at least once (23). There's an NPC in the game that greatly helps in pointing out which area still has a collectible that is yet to be discovered. There's a trophy that requires you to activate a certain relic and use it on ten bosses. This relic can be found almost at the end of the game, so players still need to play in New Game Plus to complete it. I finished the trophy list in around 60 hours.


Difficulty: 3/10
The key to the battle mechanic is learning the specific timing per attack, skill and block. Mastering it will greatly affect the completion time. There are also relics that act as game modifiers, which can definitely lessen the difficulty of the game.

Fun: 8/10
It was the Best Indie Game of the Year at TGA 2023 for a reason. It was cool that the devs added a true ending, but the overall story is just decent for me. Game length is what you would expect in a typical JRPG game; it felt complete with a good amount of side quests and mini games. Art style and music are so nostalgic.

This game proved that classic JRPG is still relevant, alive, and kicking up to this age.

This game was my first ever game on the Nintendo DS. It was 2006, and I was playing it while patiently awaiting the release of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.

Aside from its unique gameplay (catching Pokemon using the stylus), it's cool that you can get Manaphy's egg in the game and transfer it over to Pokémon Diamond / Pearl.

Too bad I lost the game's case, and only the cartridge remains.

Platinum #80: Shadow of the Colossus (PS4)

Grind: 6/10
There are items that can be obtained when doing time attacks in Normal and Hard mode, so two playthroughs are needed to collect all the items. There is a trophy that requires maxing out the stats of the main character, and the most efficient way is to farm the first Colossus, which would take more than 40 runs (assuming you already did the Normal and Hard playthroughs). I finished the trophy list in around 25 hours.

Difficulty: 6/10
The game is basically a continuous sequence of boss fights, so familiarity with Colossi's weak points is the key to an efficient run. The time limit for the time attacks is generous enough, so as long as you're familiar with the weak points, you should have little trouble completing them. Factors that add difficulty are the game controls (a bit clunky) and the movements of Colossi that make the character fall.

Fun: 8.5/10
MAJESTIC. The different terrains in the game are a sight to behold. The journey of discovering and finding each colossus with the help of the sword is the thrill of the game. The world is open for the players to fully explore but objective is strictly linear, defeat the first Colossus to advance to the next one.

Big fan of the works of Team Ico, so it was unfortunate that the studio is not active anymore and most staff became part of an independent studio. Here's to hoping that the same developers will release a new game in the future. 🫡

Platinum #79: The Gardens Between (PS5)

Grind: 1/10
Only 1 playthrough is required. There are no collectibles in this game. Finished the game in less than 3 hours.

Difficulty: 2/10
It is basically a puzzle game with only three buttons needed to play. Quite straight forward but engaging enough and satisfying to solve.

Fun: 8/10
I was looking for a good but relatively short game to play as a palette cleanser in the PS Plus Game Catalog, and thanks to Rontotz Gaming's recommendation, I decided to play this game.

This is about two neighbors and their island adventure. The goal on each island is to manipulate time and reach the top. Its story is told through memories, images, and objects. The art style and color match the simple gameplay mechanic.

A lot of the added fun factor for me is that I played this with my wife and was the one who even got the Platinum trophy (see picture at the end).

More Indie gem games please! (Much better if it is in the PS Plus Game Catalog)
