His little vintage overalls are nearly too small, and I only just got these overalls to match 😭

Seriously though, I’d been looking for good, high rise, ethically made, natural fibre overalls for like two years. Finally, I found Alder and snagged these ones!

Thoroughly impressed! I may match my toddler, but I don’t actually feel I look like a toddler, which is always my worry with wearing overalls 😂

My first month of my 2024 “no new buy” challenge is complete! I’ve found some holes in my wardrobe, and I’ve made a little list of things I’d like to add if I happen upon them at the thrift. 🏷️

Brendan and I came together on this cute little DIY! 🪚 🖊️

He’s been getting into woodworking and wood whittling lately, and I had a vision for a cute alphabet hanging for the homeschool corner of the play/living room.

Some sharpie, some canvas, a piece of poplar, and some time is all it took! 🕰️

It’s not perfect, thats’s for sure 😅 but we love it!

There’s something so lovely about watching cookies as they bake! 🍪

This little girl and I baked some peanut butter cookies, and though the process was chaotic (as most things with toddlers are) we had loads of fun. Who doesn’t want to fight off toddler hands while trying to shape peanut butter cookies 😂

As she sat in front of the oven and watched the cookies bake, all of the struggles of the day melted away. Her wonder and giddy smile placed the days arguments far from here.

How I adore simple moments; ones that make the hard days well worth the struggle. Motherhood hasn’t been easy recently, but I think we’re on the upswing! 🤍

An honest and raw snapshot of what today looked like. 🫣

Our living room is our play room, which means it’s always covered in toys and snacks, and occasionally a dirty diaper that hasn’t made it to the bin yet.

Henry fell asleep in the car, and I transferred him to the living room floor to keep an eye on him while his sister had quiet time in their room. Oh the joys of a small home haha 😅

It may not be perfectly tidy or aesthetically pleasing, but I love this little home of ours 🤍

Never perfect, but perfect for us 🤍

This is our little, practical, stuff we grab all the time area. It gets quite cluttered, as you may imagine, but every Monday I try to give it a bit of a reset. Some of the things I’m always grabbing include our ring sling, my apron (cheapie from Amazon a few years ago) and various little tie bags we’ve collected over the year (hidden away in the cotton draw string bag).

I found that if I hang cute decor in with the practical items, I’m more motivated to keep it tidy 🤪

This little angel is nearly ONE and I am not okay 😭

In one week, my little man will be a year old, and that means we will stop posting his face on social media.

When Charlie was 14 months, we stopped showing her full face on social media. I was making YouTube videos at the time, and loved the blossoming community I was creating. However, as I learned more about the very real predators that lurk on instagram and YouTube, following motherhood/lifestyle creators, I couldn’t, in good conscience, continue to go the way I was going.

I made this decision two years ago, and I stick by it. Now we’re moving forward with Henry as well, and feel very confident we’re making the right decision for our family. Will my content change? No. It’ll be a little more creative when it comes to what I show? Absolutely!

I appreciate each and every one of you. I’m overjoyed that my little corner of the internet is growing, and I love connecting with you.l all.

I will post some of the birthday festivities. As well as Henry’s monthly photos from the last year, but after December 1st, that’ll be the last of this little boy’s face for the internet, until he decides to share it.

I am feeling so nostalgic and hopeful in this season. 🔔

Autumn and Winter are my favourite time of year. Leaves turn beautiful colours 🍂 and the weather turns crisp and cold. The smell of snow fills the air, and snowflakes land on warm tongues ❄️ Christmas lights break the darkness 🎄and cold noses turn rosy pink 😚

I love the warmth the indoors bring, while the weather cools. I love snow falling and bells ringing. I love the cozy feelings of belonging and shifting focus to giving and spreading love, joy, and cheer.

I am incredibly thankful in this season, that I can experience and appreciate the joy that Christmas brings.

I absolutely cannot believe it’s been SIX months since my septo/rhinoplasty. If you’re new here, which many of you are 😂, you likely don’t know that I had my nose broken when I was about 12.

I was bullied pretty badly in school (surprise, I didn’t fit in 😆) and one of my bullies threw a basketball at my face. Well, my glasses went one way, and my nose went with them! 😳

I didn’t get the proper medical help soon enough, and my nose healed rather crooked. It made me very self conscious, I’m not going to lie. All of the photos of me were of my “good side” for 15 years.

Well, now I’m on the other side of the healing process - six months of healing and being VERY careful with my two children who love to flail their arms very close to my face. 😑

Anyway, I’m so overjoyed with the results. The ENT basically reset my nose to factory default settings! 👃🏻

What do you think? Is it a huge difference??

This is it, my favourite spot on the house! 🥹

It’ll forever be a work in progress, and I have a million ideas for this space, but I have come to appreciate the work in progress phase. It’s just a season, like any other.

If you’re new around here, we rent a little 750sqft home in northeastern BC. We love this little house, and we have very kind landlords who let us paint and do little things here and there to update the space. When we moved in a month and a bit ago, the kids room was a very dark peachy pink. I wasn’t against the colour at all, just how dark the room felt during the day. It’s a North facing room, so it doesn’t get any direct sunlight. I felt that painting it white was necessary, and I think I was right! Charlotte loves being in here now that the room is brighter! ☀️

This is what my working hours look like today. 💤

This little boy is cutting teeth and very attached to mama. It’s an off day for them, as mom has been out of the house (*gasp*) taking photos for a local non-profit.

I love this little community we’ve moved to, and I’m so happy to be supporting businesses that do good work for good people! I’ll share more soon I’m sure. 😜

Anyway, being a working mom is not easy, even if it’s just a few hours a week. How so many of you do it is beyond me! 🥲

Nothing in my home is ever perfect, I hope you know! I’ll never try to convince you it is, either. This room was a labour of love in many ways, but I am so happy with the new wall colour.

The dresser is unfinished. The crib is pushed to the wall with the label stickers facing into the room (my fault lol, but I’m too lazy to fix it), and in that grey diaper caddy is a bunch of things to go back up on the walls. It may look clean and perfect, but there’s a bunch to do over here!

I’m here to create a space where the outcasts fit in! I’ve never been someone who fits in with her peers, and I’ve had a lot of trouble making friends in my life. I’ve always rooted for the underdog and questioned everything people tried to teach me.

It seems so silly to love a lamp as much as I love this one. ☺️

This lamp was my great grandmother’s. It has been passed down through the generations in my family, and it was originally gifted to my sister. She eventually gave it to me, and I cannot express to you how much I seriously adore this lamp. 🤍

It has a couple chips, and a crack or two. I’ve rewired it, of course, and have done a little fixing on it. There aren’t many inanimate objects I truly love, but this is definitely one of them!

My blue eyed boys 🩵

I cannot with these two 😭

When Charlotte was born, a dream was realized; I had always ALWAYS wanted a daughter. She was the answer to that prayer. Henry was the answer to a wish I never knew I had. He is such a sweet and gentle thing, but he isn’t afraid to scream at you if you’re in his space (*cough* Charlie) 😜

I was terrified to have a son, I won’t lie to you. I figured girls would be easier because I am a girl after all. I didn’t have many examples of good men in my life when I was young. I think that was a big contributor to my anxiety and gender disappointment when I found out Henry was a boy.

That anxiety is gone now. It disappeared slowly, if I’m honest, but I recall a phrase I heard when Brendan and I were dating: “Never marry a man unless you would be overjoyed to have a son just like him.”

I married Brendan knowing I would indeed be overjoyed, and proud even, to have a son just like him. Now I have a son, and he’s so much like his daddy, and I’m just so smitten with them! 😍

Lack of supports for Autistic adults is a real problem. Autistic children turn into autistic adults, and yet, supports are limited to those under the age of 18. Don’t get me wrong, I’m beyond grateful that my autistic daughter can access supports through her childhood, but I am unable to access anything myself, as her also autistic mother. Those of us who weren’t diagnosed until adulthood lack the foundations taught in early childhood intervention programs. Through 2023, I learned A LOT about synthetic materials. I had previously made a connection between clothing longevity and natural materials, but the health effects of synthetics didn’t really occur to me until later. After a lot of research (and a lot of panic if we’re honest) I decided to get rid of my synthetic underwear. Not only are synthetic materials moisture traps, which lead to bacteria growth and changes in vaginal PH, but they also contain microplastics and forever chemicals (like PFAS) that can disrupt hormones and reduce fertility. For me, @q.for.quinn was a clear choice. Although I am not sponsored by them, they did send me a few products to try. Okay, let me start by saying this ring sling is absolutely BEAUTIFUL 😍 it was a gift from @heritagebabydesigns and I am so grateful! Some of you long time followers may remember that I made a ring sling a few years ago when Charlie was around Henry’s age. Although it “worked” I had more issues with it than not. The concept of ring slings has always fascinated me! I love the idea of having less straps and buckles, more breathable fabric, and a quick one step baby carrier you can wear in multiple ways! I’ve tried a few ring slings now, and this one by Heritage Baby Designs has blown me away! Natural linen, larger rings in black, and fabulous texture and colour. Something I learned recently is that a lot of autistic people find it easier to express how they feel about certain things through music and art! I find it hard to put my feelings or perspective into words sometimes, especially if there’s a lot of emotion or pain involved. However, once I hear something I relate to, I can pinpoint the feelings and finally give words to them. That’s where @nfrealmusic comes in! Nate has such an amazing way with words! I often find myself over here like “OMG YES FINALLY!!” when I listen to his music. If you have a parental wound, you might like NF! My life isn’t perfect, by any means, but I feel so so utterly grateful for it. 🤍 I remember being in therapy in my teen years, expressing how heartbroken I was that the family I was born into didn’t value any of the things I did. I felt so isolated, so alone, so empty. (I’m learning now, at 28, a lot of that is the result of growing up as an Autistic person in a toxic family system.) I’ll never forget what my therapist told me: “Victoria, I know you’re hurting, and that this pain will be a part of you for your entire life. But I also know that YOU have the power to make sure that the cycle stops with you. You can be the curse breaker; the cycle stopper. You get to create the family you desperately want. Your children will be your chance to feel that love.” My riotous determination latched into that idea, and every day I thought about this life I would create for myself. I thought about my children one day, and how I would pour every ounce of love I had always wanted into these little beings.
