Hitting the 2024 HIGHLIGHTS⬇️

Although we saw a lot more, here are the highlights!

1. JANUARY we enjoyed the whole month in FL and visited key west for the first time!

2. FEBRUARY Biscayne was another highlight - outside Miami, also enjoyed Miami Beach and ample time on the east coast of Florida

3. MARCH fun time in NOLA for the holiday weekend with cousin Summer & James

4. APRIL scooted north into Arkansas and saw the TOTAL solar eclipse with my parents and uncle/ aunt! Will never forget the shimmer 💎

5. MAY Big Bend national park - super remote, super hot almost ran out of gas here - saw the most beautiful sunset of the year

6 JUNE Adrian says Grand Canyon was his favorite - awesome views and hikes- Post northern AZ we spent a lot of quality time in Phoenix with my bestie 🍒

7 JULY Holiday weekend in Yosemite 💗 we loved this one 💗 mono lake is also a cute little town on the Tioga pass side - back to highway 1 and up to OR- I think this was my favorite most full of sights month

8 AUGUST- I like to say this was our go out with a bang month before we took a hiatus from Vanlife in September we hit glacier👌😍 Yellowstone, Tetons Badlands, and were still hungry for more😁

9 SEPTEMBER was a was a month of respite while the van was mostly parked in Indiana. I spent time with my sister and family in Elmhurst and also spent a lot of time in Hammond with Adrian’s family

10. OCTOBER- van repairs were mostly complete and we go going again to check out Indiana Dunes and Sleepibg Bear Dunes in Michigan- both beautiful spots! Celebrated our birthdays too!

11. NOVEMBER took a real vacation (without the van) to curaçao ! Most beautiful beaches and snorkeling we have ever experienced!

12. DECEMBER - BACK to Florida had to hit the bucket list stop of Dry Tortugas since we missed it the first time down to the keys!

We are so incredibly grateful for every one of these moments & for the opportunity to live life this way. What will 2025 bring?!

Happy Thanksgiving 🍁nearing 365 days on the road with RIP VAN WINKLE 💕

from setting out on our first test drives in rip in the Catskill mountains of New York when he was just an empty cargo van, to coming full circle this week, swinging down to Florida for the second time in the last year, we have been so thankful for every moment of 2024 .

The story of Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan is rooted in Native American legend, specifically from the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) people, who have a deeply spiritual connection to the land and its natural formations.

According to legend, the Sleeping Bear Dunes were formed when a mother bear and her two cubs were forced to flee a massive forest fire in what is now Wisconsin. The bears swam across Lake Michigan, attempting to reach the opposite shore. The journey was long and difficult, and while the mother bear made it to the shore, her cubs, exhausted from the swim, didn’t survive and were lost beneath the waves.

Heartbroken, the mother bear climbed to the top of a bluff overlooking the lake, where she lay down to watch and wait for her cubs to reemerge from the water. According to the legend, she never moved again and was eventually covered by the sands of time. The Great Spirit, moved by her loss, created the two Manitou Islands—North and South Manitou—just offshore to honor her cubs. The sand dunes that form the large bluff are said to be the mother bear, still watching over her children.

Today, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore preserves these beautiful dunes, along with forests, wetlands, and miles of pristine Lake Michigan shoreline. Visitors come to enjoy hiking, dune climbing, and learning about the area’s rich natural and cultural history.

The region’s story is not only one of natural beauty but also one that connects generations of people to the land, blending the powerful forces of nature with the spiritual significance of the legend.

Hey ✌🏻 world 🌅

We have been on a little break from the van (the past month) dealing with ~$3500.00 in repairs and maintenance. Somewhere along our journey the radiator shroud broke and fell into the fan ripping apart belts and puncturing the radiator.. it’s a miracle we didn’t break down sooner on the road.

Mercedes wanted to charge over $6500.00 for this work, luckily Adrian knows a trusting mechanic in northwest Indiana that did the work for a quarter of the price and completed some maintenance work as well.

After 5 weeks off we are officially back on route exploring some new beautiful places in the Midwest.

Comment below if you’ve been to this scenic National Park in the Midwest ✨

No question the Redwoods are shooting to the top of the national parks list! Mornings started cool in the 50s with fog and by the afternoon the sun was ALWAYS shining bright warming the redwoods and all that lives within. We saw sooo much being here for the week- the highlights include:
- California coastal trail
- Klamath Overlook
- numerous elk viewings
- sipping sake at Enderts Beach
-Banana Slug Spottings
-Simpson Reed Grove
-all the hikes and stops along Newton B Drury Scenic Parkway

It wasn’t crowded, the temps were perfect for hiking and enjoying a warm beverage. It felt so good to bathe in all the beauty of nature. 🌏🌲🍃🌱

Rip's natural environment. This is where a 4x4 sprinter is meant to be! Well, maybe not the road, but the environment itself yes. We did some offroading while here and at the national seashore. Our alignment got knocked off kilter so we will be needing to get that fixed ASAP.

It's hard off-roading in an almost 12,000 lbs rig with such height.

Maxi, the shy little June bug has finally started thriving. We camped on a quiet farm, far from cars and dogs and she spent a lot of her time chasing butterflies in the field. This was actually her chasing one down 😆

I so happy that she's finally starting to enjoy van life.

There is no question on who the boss of the van. Bunny makes her dominance known at all times, inside and outside of the van. She is the queen of sass, the big black and white, the bun ziggler - What a cat! We love her ❤️

My little guy is making strides

Last time I updated you guys on his situation he was getting used to being outside the van in a kennel.

Now he is out of the van fully, thriving, and chasing lizards! He still gets a little scared once in a while but I'm hoping with time I'll be able to take him on hikes!

The wildlife in florida is awesome.

Growing up in the Midwest all we really got to see was squirrels, street dogs, and street cats, along with the occasional friendly cockroach 😆

The wildlife over here is on a different level.

Today is a big day for little guy little Tai!

He is seemingly getting comfortable being outside the van. Even amongst all of the other folks, vans, rvs, and people nearby.

It took a little bit of tough love though. I purchased an "escape proof" cat harness that magically keeps him leashed even when he attempts to turn into water.

So I leashed him up and sat with him outside. He tried to escape but as soon as he figured out he couldn't he calmly too shelter in his kennel.

This is the latest big step towards him becoming a vanlife adventure cat!

What should be my next step to getting him more comfortable being out and about?

One of our favorite things to do is explore new cities.

This year we are lucky, for the first time, to be able to skip winter. We've been enjoying Miami's melting pot of culture.

From the architecture, to the restaurants, we've been enjoying it all.

Honestly I think this is a place we wouldn't mind living at.

What's your favorite part about exploring new cities?
