IS HONESTY THE BEST POLICY?
It felt strange to read the words 'your honesty is refreshing.' in response to a comment I made about being blindsided by my emotional reaction to a situation that left me frustrated to Toop's question 'Have you had a moment where everything went sideways? How did you react?'
Contemplating the comment 'your honesty is refreshing'. Caused me to pause to ask myself why I had felt the need to answer in the way I had.
The reason is that I have to be honest with myself. Therefore, my comment had to reflect my truth.
Why, you may be wondering, have I the need to be honest? The reason is simple.
After experiencing years of being lied to by my boyfriend, I chose to be open and honest in any comment, statement or conversation.
I know, not everyone appreciates the truth, but I learned it is better to speak truthfully than to lie. Because lies will hurt far more than the truth, as you are breaking the trust of the person you lie to.
I get it; sometimes, a little white lie may be beneficial.
But lies are found out, maybe not immediately but later. And when they are, they create a range of emotions which do not dissipate quickly, even when shared.
And if you lie to yourself, you fail to appreciate the beauty of being you.
What experiences have shaped your belief in honesty, and how do you navigate being truthful in a world where honesty isn't always appreciated?
