Accra Art Week x Africa Film Society Screening – Ama (1990)– feature directorial debut for filmmakers Kwesi Owusu and Nii Kwate Owoo.

A golden floppy disk becomes a prophetic device through which a young Ghanaian girl living in England, Ama, rediscovers her African identity. She learns its contents at the office where her mother cleans. The disk, through magic realism and by way of ancestors, warns her of the dangers of forgetting one's heritage.

Catch this classic on Thursday! Kindly RSVP if you haven’t yet.

Accra Art Week x African Film Society Screening : You Hide Me – Nii Kwate Owoo (1970)

Ghanaian filmmaker Nii Kwate Owoo spent a day filming in the basement archives of the British Museum in 1970.

His film ‘You Hide Me’ was banned in Ghana by the GBC a year later for being “anti-British” and “politically unacceptable “ and for that reason could not be shown on Ghana TV.

An article published by an influential London-based magazine ‘West Africa’ on the incident announced the film to the rest of the world and sparked interest and conversations.

It’s a must see documentary which creates an argument for the restitution of African art.

After 50 years, You Hide Me was awarded the Best Documentary Prize at the Paris Short Film Festival in 2020.

Kindly RSVP to get a chance to see this film on Thursday.
