Ferguson Marine shipyard in Port Glasgow is among six firms being invited to bid for a seven-vessel Scottish ferry contract. The small electric ferries are to be built to help support island communities and improve the resilience of the Clyde and Hebrides network.

The tender returns are expected by January 2025, with a view to awarding the contract in March 2025.

The contract is for phase one of the Small Vessels Replacement Programme, the estimated costs for which are around £175 million, which includes allowances for the seven vessels as well as port improvements and shore power upgrades.

Ardgowan Distillery bosses hope to liven up the blank gable of their landmark new building with their logo, in between phases of construction. Work on stage one of the distinctive distillery at Bankfoot, Inverkip, is due to be completed by the end of the year. It will house the main production elements.

Phase two will be a visitor centre which will be added to the end of the production space. The distillery has now applied for temporary advertising consent to apply its logo on the exposed gable until it is covered by the future construction. Inverclyde Council planners are considering the proposal.
