Thanksgiving day crash leaves child dead, multiple injured:

At approximately 5:20pm on Thanksgiving day, Michigan State Police troopers and MCSO responded to M-53 near Ebeling Road near the Bruce Twp Fire Department for a serious vehicle crash.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2011 Chevy Impala, operated by an adult male, was traveling south on M-53 with his 2-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter when he crossed into the northbound lanes and crashed head-on with a 2013 Chevy Impala.

The 18-year-old female driver on the 2013 Impala was following her boyfriend’s vehicle, who was able to swerve to avoid the crash, but her vehicle was struck.

The 3-year-old girl in the 2011 Impala was pronounced deceased. The adult male driver and 2-year-old boy are hospitalized in critical condition. The boy was transferred to Childrens Hospital of Detroit.

The female driver of the 2013 Impala, a Davison resident, is hospitalized in critical condition.

Early investigation determined that the 2011 Impala didn’t brake before impact, and neither child was properly restrained. The vehicle also had only one car seat.

“Metro North troopers are continuing to investigate this crash,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw.
“We do know that neither child was properly restrained and only one car seat was in the vehicle. What we don’t know is why the at fault driver crossed over into the on coming lanes. A blood draw was taken as part of the investigation. It is particularly heartbreaking when a preventable crash occurs on a holiday. It is even worse when a child loses their life. Please make sure to wear your seatbelt and that your children are properly restrained every trip.”

Michigan will see its second round of snow Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening…but this time the snow will dip further into Michigan.

Snow may become heavy at times and a slight wintry mix Saturday night is expected to leave heavy compacted snow on the ground for Sunday morning.

Models agree overall on at least about 4 inches. Those along Lake St. Clair, Lake Erie, and Lake Huron (within a mile or two of any lakes) will see the lowest totals due to warm lake waters.

Depending on the full track of the low can make or break the 4 inch mark or 7+ inch mark.

Winter advisories and possibly watches will likely be issued tomorrow.
