Nordic Malayali took the opportunity to catch up with him during his visit. He shared his thoughts on raising awareness on entrepreneurship in India, the significance of events such as Slush Helsinki, importance of a start up ecosystem, comparison with events like Huddle organized by the Kerala Start Up Mission, removing the stigma attached with going into business in India and the education system in Finland.

Minister of Education Anna-Maja Henriksson and a high profile ministerial delegation along with the Finnish Ambassador, Consul General, and various University rectors visited Kerala and met The Chief Minister, Education minister, and top government officials on 19th October to promote the export activities of Finnish education operators and higher education institutions. The visit focuses on comprehensive level and upper secondary vocational education in the three southern states of India, which have shown a clear interest in Finland: Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.

Former FIMA secretary Mr.Unnikrishnan Kurup is the only Indian member in the accompanying delegation. Mr.Unnikrishnan serves as a member of accompanying experts from the University of Helsinki.

The government of Kerala will be collaborating with the University of Helsinki and preparing a road map for optimizing the Kerala education system to face global challenges in early childhood education. Hopefully, Karnataka and Tamilnadu will follow suit.

According to Minister Anna Maja Henriksson, India has recently become the world’s most populous country, is fast developing its education sector, and is therefore an interesting partner for Finland.

There have been some recent announcements from the Finnish government and the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) that directly affect non-EU/EEA students in Finland. There has been an increase in the number of foreign students coming to Finland over the past few years. The new government program may make studying in Finland more expensive, and make Finland less attractive for foreign students. In this video, we discuss these announcements.
