As members of the MSSNUI, it is important that we understand the role of Shura in our decision-making processes. We must recognize that our opinions and contributions are valuable, and that we have a responsibility to participate in the decision-making process. By doing so, we can ensure that our community is led by individuals who are representative of our values and committed to our success.

As the Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria University of Ibadan(MSSNUI) begins the process of appointing new executives, it is important to understand the role of Shura in Islamic political and administrative systems in decision-making. Peculiar to the Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria, the University of Ibadan Chapter is the passion to groom students who would not only excel academically but also individuals who would be proud vanguards of high moral and spiritual conduct. In a bid to ascertain the readiness of the organization during this session, we had an interview with the Directorate of Studies, Abdulsalam Oladapo. He left no stone unturned while he reassures us that MSSN-UI is forever committed to the improvement of the lives of students on campus through its various programs.

Consistency is key but, do not overburden yourself!

While it is good to be on the right pace and keep going despite all odds; it is also pertinent to make sure that you do not overburden yourself with tasks. It is awesome to be consistent with what you are doing, it is amazing to always beat deadlines, and it is relieving to go on break when you are stressed.

Going on break does not mean that you are weak. It simply implies that you need sometimes for yourself to cool off and set some things right such that you resume your tasks with full force and productive energy.

It is resumption week and I hope you are not bothered about the stress in stock for you but rather, preparing your mind, body, and soul to experience them in the right state.

Do not take your spiritual health for granted for it will always be your first call when you are indisposed. Your mental health is a priority, do not take it with levity.

I wish and pray for you a productive, fun-filled, and stress-friendly week and resumption.

DYNAMISM OF NATURE.

Indeed, you're naturally born with some traits and talents, but it is also true that you can seek to alter or develop them.

The fact that you're not naturally gifted with something doesn't mean you wouldn't do well at it. If you want to be good at writing, reading, and speaking, frequent practice will make you get better.

If you're naturally bad-tempered or choleric, and you are seeking to change, making Dua and following the instructions in the Hadith of the Prophet will come in handy.

Introverts might need to interact sometimes, extroverts might need to shun their outgoingness sometimes. All to attain a benefit.

Do you also think Allah can not love you because you're a perpetual sinner then you continue to wallow in sins? Yes, sinning is human but it must be followed suit by repenting. You can be righteous if you repent and seek not to return to your sins.

Dynamism is not the opposite of nature, but rather a feature of it. And so can you choose to adjust your nature to whatever circumstances you face.

One of the myths about writing is that it is a gift. Are you of this opinion, as well?

How about looking at it from the angle of learning?

However gifted you are in writing, if you do not master the art- the technicality involved, your writing will appear as a mere collection of words without any semantic manifestation.

Learn to read. You are a product of what you read. You're great; learn from greater writers.

The bottom line is that: if you want to be a great writer, do not depend solely on your innate skills to write; take a step further: learn the art from those who are adept at it.

Pick Up From Where You Stopped!

The reality has now dawned and the light after the tunnel has indeed been ignited. Why are you complaining?

Dear Nigerian Students,

I'm quite sure most of us have been immersed in one role or the other and the possibility of gaining the student's energy again requires conscious efforts.

We all have various reasons for choosing to proceed to higher institutions in the first place, do not allow the eight-month break to smash it. It will only be a distortion of truth to say that no one felt the delay but, the One up high knows best.

This week, I just want to remind you of your secretly written goals; those which you are just starting and the ones you are running close to.

Raise your hands for His blessings, prosperity, and grace

Take well note of the processes to achieve the goals.

Work hard smartly to achieve them even if it requires stepping out of your comfort zone but, within the stipulations of the Deen.

ASUU will not truncate our dreams
FG will not destroy our mission
Delayed academic calendar will not be proud of our failure
We will survive despite all odds
From now on to attaining our utmost productivity and earning the pleasure of our Lord!

May the new week be blessed bountifully bi idhniLlah.

That you may enjoy inner peace!

By His mercy you have been gifted another opportunity to thrive and become a world class in your respective endeavours. Do not forget that your Lord has bestowed on you distinct abilities to explore wide range of opportunities within your reach. The only thing refraining you from harnessing them is your mindset not to explore them.

And remember, if you do not utilize the God-given gifts in you for the betterment of all and sundry, He will raise another category of people that will bring out His manifestation.

Expression of gratitude to Him is another useful tip to enjoy inner peace even when what you desire has not come into fruition. Acknowledge His mercy in your life and continue with righteous deeds.

May you be blessed and experience a hitch free week bi idhniLlah.

The path to peace may seem foggy
No doubt it's filled with struggles and thorns,
Enough to sway one but thanks to tenaciousness,
The inner enthusiasm keeps one going ardently.

The Rasul was excommunicated yet he persevered,
His Companions were castigated yet they were unhesitating,
The people after fought for opportunities for us and championed,
Hence, there lie their unconquerable victories in our thinking.

Have you read the poignant persecution of Bilaal,
Nor have you read that witnessed in the hands of the Almighty Quraysh,
Definitely not to have imagined that meted upon Sumayyah
Yet, it happened and they strengthened their resolve still.

Sacrifice executed is incomparable to sacrifice spoken,
O believers, adversities abound to be surmounted,
Sweet days accompanied by worst days unending,
Soothing relief that the end goal is what we are reaching.

Work on the path to earn that peace,
Nothing matters like living a fulfilled life,
One which Our Creator is full of pleasure for you,
Marching towards the path to peace earnestly.

Speak good or remain silent!

My dear brothers and sisters, I hope the week comes with ease and you are in a good state of Iman! Always remember the words of the Prophet; May Allah's peace be showered on him.

His messages are numerous but, I will just like to call your attention to his warning of polite responses and nice remarks. You might indeed be wronged or your emotions might be tampered with but, do not be quick to provocation.

Finally, when your opinion is sought; give polite responses, respect the situation and the person who seeks your knowledge.

May Allah make the week a productive and successful one for you and me.

GIVE AND YOU WILL GET MORE.

Most people limit "Give and you will get more" to mean: if I give out 10,000 naira, Allah will give me that same amount and more. I'm not denying the fact that such will happen, it does happen. But the real essence of giving beyond the material returns.

A story was narrated about the wife of the Prophet SAW, Aisha, May Allah be pleased with her. She gave out the remaining food that was left in her house, a handful of barley which she would useful to break her fast. She wasn't expecting anything material in return and a neighbour appeared to gift her a goat. Then she said, “I swear by Allah, none of you can be a true believer until his trust in Allah is stronger than that which he sees and has in the palm of his hands.”

We will give out easily when we're aware that our wealth is from Allah, He is the real owner of it and He can take it away and replenish whenever He wills. We have materialised the reward of giving such that it is so difficult for us to give an amount from what we have. Perhaps, we gave in the past and the money didn't become more while we think it should.

The reward for charity is far more greater, not excluding the material portion of it. Giving out will make us grateful of Allah's favours upon us, the joy in the face of the one we gifted will in turn makes us joyous also. Charity detaches us from material things, makes us humble and most importantly instill the awe of Allah in us.

Giving out also helps alleviates trials and tribulation. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said ‘Give the sadaqah without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.’ (Tirmidhi)

Charity is of the good deeds that Allah so much cherishes. Several verses in the Quran portray how charity purifies one's wealth and accumulates a lot of reward. The best of them that I know is verse 261 of Suratul Baqarah which portrays that giving out is an investment for the hereafter.

"The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing."
Al-Baqarah 2:261

Our wealth will cease to be ours when death approaches.

"And spend [in the way of Allah] from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, "My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be of the righteous."

Al Munafiqun( 63: 10)

This Day in the History of University of Ibadan

Exactly two years ago today, on 21st September 2020, an electronic voting was conducted for members of the Senate of the University of Ibadan to elect two members that would represent Senate on the Joint Council/Senate Selection Board for the Appointment of a Vice-Chancellor. There were seven names on the ballot. The turn out was unprecedented, thanks to the electronic voting which made casting of ballots at remote sites feasible unlike what was the practise hitherto with manual voting.

The voting was conducted peacefully and the results were declared immediately voting ended at the Trenchard Hall of the University.

The two winners emerged convincingly, following the trend already established in past elections for electing Senate representatives on the Selection Board.

No sooner had the election results been declared than two of the losers commenced a spate of evil petitions that subsequently matured into a full blown crisis. A few other elements within and outside of the University capitalised on the fissure lines thus created and we soon had a major crisis to contend with.

First, the process for the appointment of the 13th Vice-Chancellor of the premier University was truncated and aborted. This was the seventh time the University of Ibadan would be headed by an Acting Vice-Chancellor, a veritable measure of instability in an otherwise institution of global repute.

Second, an Acting Vice-Chancellor had to be elected by Senate on 30th November 2020.

Third, Council was dissolved in February 2021.

Fourth, a new Council was appointed in April 2021.

Fifth, the 2020 exercise for the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor was annuled on 1st July 2021 by the new Council and a new process was approved.

A new Vice-Chancellor was eventually appointed by Council on 14th October 2021, thus bringing to a close the sordid state of affairs, of the previous 13 months, that nearly brought down the University of Ibadan to its kneels.

The University was in the news for all the wrong reasons while the simulated crisis lasted. Well informed people from critical constituencies all over the world asked us why it was so difficult to appoint a Vice-Chancellor.

Those who fail to learn from history are bound to repeat it.

It's a new week fam!

Are you sad that you could not complete the listed tasks you assigned for yourself the last time?

Do not fret! This is another golden opportunity to keep pushing and striving for greatness. Do not say because the process is slow and you are depressed about it.

The routines might be tasking, the time might be short but, trust the process and continue putting in the best. By His will, the best is yet to come.

Do have a great week.

BEWARE OF THE TEMPTING CALL TO MARRIAGE

-Sulayman Abdulrofiu Akanji ( The Factotum of Knowledge and Its Righteous Scholars).

Be sincere in your planning. It's good to marry at the early stage but the basic needs to execute the process successfully must not be left out. Before going into marriage, you should be mentally, physically, spiritually, and financially fit, at least to some extent.

Don't be a liability to your spouse. A husband is charged with the financial responsibilities of the house while the wife's responsibility is to take care of the home.

I have not seen any authentic evidence against a woman seeking a means of sustenance but it shouldn't affect her primary duty as a wife- her matrimonial function- provided the husband permits her to do so. The financial responsibility of the family is not on her- it's the responsibility of the husband, however there's nothing bad in being supportive to her husband, if the need arises.

We must be sincere in our presentation and dealings. Never imitate anyone blindly. Be chaste. Be considerate. Be hardworking. Choose a responsible and hardworking spouse (s) if truly you want a life of tranquility.

The call to marry at the early stage leaving behind the needs of marriage like sound Knowledge in setting an Islamic home and the presence of source of income irrespective of its limit/quantity which enhances the ability of a man to cater for his immediate family is a wrong call.

Well, It is good to make hays while the sun shines. Fornication is a great evil that destroys the nation but in planning for that, what will make it successful shouldn't be left out. Brothers and sisters should not marry out of sympathy or under compulsion. The order is to marry a woman of your choice and nothing more (Quran 4 verse 3). The aim of Islam behind marriage is the attainment of Allah's pleasure.

How would you make a transaction with Allah and expect less?

Brethren!
It is another new week to pick up from where you left it. The very right time to open another chapter of impacting stories; another time to remember that after every hardship comes with ease.

I am just showing up again to ring the bell of clear intention in all your dealings. Remember the words of Rasul that every action will be rewarded following what is intended.

If you do it for self-appraisal; it will be right at your fingertips but, know that it vanishes instantly. How sweet will it sound to your hearing that you can enjoy lifetime rewards upon good intentions for the sake of your Lord?

Wake up and renew your intention and enjoy the endless flow of grace from your Lord!
