Anna Calix is a biracial Latina single mom from Honduras living in the Chicagoland area. Her parenting journey began with a beautiful pregnancy that unfortunately turned into tragedy when Liam was stillborn on his due date.Her rainbow baby, Rio, was born 18 months later.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in pre-medicine, biology, and communication studies from Augustana College (IL) and almost completed her Master’s degree in public health at UIC when Liam was born.
Every year Anna’s goal is to complete her degree in Liam’s memory and I have no doubt this goal will be accomplished in the near future.
Anna’s unique experience working in perinatal care when she experienced a stillbirth paired with her passion for improving health outcomes for underserved populations laid the foundation for creating her nonprofit, Gifts from Liam.
In this episode, Anna talks to us about the diaper gap and the education gap many families fall into that negatively impact parenthood and shares how her organization is working to narrow the gaps by increasing access to education and resources for families in need while also supporting bereaved families

Christine is from Mexican 🇲🇽and Guatemalan 🇬🇹decent. She was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and recently moved to Florida with her family 2 boys (age 2 & 4) and husband.
Christine has over 14 years of experience in the healthcare industry and has a Master of Science in Nursing.
Being in the healthcare industry she gained a lot of experience in quality improvement. Christine applied these strategies learned in combination with mindset work to apply to life’s decision making situations.
I enjoyed our conversation very much as we discussed her move from the east to the sunshine state Florida, working in the field during Covid, her journey cultivating motherhood & career, and building confidence as a women.

I am excited to share our first guest this month who is local to Chicago and whom I had the pleasure to meet.
Araceli Fernandez, a Mexican American Latina mom from Chicago, IL. Araceli is a Medical Coder in Health Information Management. She holds a Registered Medical Assistant Certification. Araceli shares her journey parenting her 3 children 2 boys and 1 girl ages 14, 12, and 7 and becoming a mom at age 17.
As well as debunking some of the myths of young parenting in the latino communities. Addressing her mental health journey.
Araceli dedicates this episode to her children:
⭐️Leo who taught Araceli at 17 yrs. old how to be a mother and both are still growing together. Leo also reminds Araceli of her late father.
⭐️Her daughter Jasmin who Araceli has taught her to embrace speaking her mind and learning about patience.
⭐️Mateo who is the life of the party and pours love and tenderness.
As well as her husband William for his unconditional support for 14 years of marriage.

It is her mission to share with other parents how to incorporate Montessori at home while staying true to our beautiful culture.

Audrey loved the support she received and decided to pay it forward by becoming at fitness coach. Audrey realized within the 1st year many women quit not due to the lack of support but because they did not believe in themselves which became her mission to empower other women to believe in themselves and boost their confidence through mindset.

Dr. Hortencia is a trailblazer mom of 3, despite childhood challenges and obstacles navigating education as a first-gen student she is an example of perseverance and chasing her bold dreams! She has received numerous awards for her work in the community 👊🏽
Dr. Hortencia Jimenez was born in Nayarit, Mexico in la Sierra Madre and raised in the agriculture community of Watsonville CA. At a young age, she came to the U.S. and grew up away from her parents and siblings.
Dr. Jimenez spent her childhood years working in the fields and learned the ethic of hard work and perseverance.
She holds a BA, MA, and Ph.D in Sociology and is also a certified Health Coach and Fitness Instructor.
Dr. Jimenez is a full-time tenured Sociology professor teaching at a local community college in Monterey County, California
Dr. Jimenez created her instagram account @drhortenciajimenez as a response to the lack of Latinx representation and conversation of an anti-diet approach in the Health and Wellness industry.
Her work centers on dismantling diet culture and helping Latinxs have a healthy relationship with food, embrace food without guilt and love your body. She is passionate about health and wellness!

So thrilled to announce our 2nd Guest Speaker 🎉 Former math teacher, Rita-Soledad Fernandez, now personal Finance Educator, shares with us about her financial journey.
She has since started studying to become a Certified Financial Planner and committed to talking dinero with anyone willing to listen so that we can all build wealth juntos.
She initiated her Financial Literacy journey while she was on a sick leave from work by reading books and watching YouTube videos which gave her knowledge and information on financial literacy.
Some of Soledad's major achievements were paying off over $23K in debt from Student Loans, creating a six-month emergency fund and maxing out her husband's 401 K and IRA's for both of them.
Soledad's tips to achieve financial wellness as a family:
* Creating a emergency fund (list all monthly expenses)
* Being intentional about money coming our way
* Investing for retirement
She also shares about the financial habits she has taught her children:
* Budgeting
* Delaying gratification
* Taking good care of the things they have to make them last
* Building credit history (for her godson who is 13 years old)
Soledad started "poco a poco" by focusing on one goal at a time. “Give yourself permission to learn and make mistakes. You don't have to be an expert”
