The Aprilia garage has had its share of troubles, from losing Iannone to a steroid scandal and riding ban, the inconsistent performance of the new 90 degree V4 engine and completely redesigned chassis, and the very recent death of Fausto Gresini which accelerated the split between Gresini Racing and the Noale Factory.

But things seem to be looking up with a few things aligning based on the news coming out of the MotoGP paddock.

A marriage is about to be born between Aprilia and Andrea Dovizioso, or at least they are trying. Aprilia has finally convinced Andrea Dovizioso to hold a MotoGP test in Jerez after months of courting him.

But the surprises don't end there: Valentino Rossi's VR46 could be tied to Noale, which would be a great replacement for the Gresini relationship, and reconnect Valentino with the factory that he launched his amazing career through.

Aprilia has lost Andrea Iannone after his WADA Ban, and needed to find someone to replace him. Lorenzo Savadori has been testing on the new RS-GP, but seems unable to get consistent results with the bike.

Aleix Espargarò seems to be loving the new bike, and getting good results. He has expressed words of praise of the new RS-GP the end of the MotoGP tests in Qatar, praising chassis and aerodynamics. The Catalan also did well in testing during the five days in Losail.

In some ways, the Aprilia MotoGP bike seems to be getting closer to the Yamaha M1. Aleix said “From my point of view the Yamaha is one of the best bikes in the world and it is the most stable. We are going a bit in this direction with the chassis."

Until a few months ago, the former Ducati rider had rejected the offer from Noale. So what changed?

There is speculation is that Dovi was waiting to hear about the developments on the Marc Marquez-Honda injury affair, to see if he could slide into that seat.

Now that Marc is back in the saddle, Aprilia remains the only door to a possible return to MotoGP. The rider from Forlì also seems to be interested in developing the true potential of the new prototype.

Aleix's words and his performances also likely intrigued Andrea Dovizioso, along with the possibility of a satellite team linked to Valentino Rossi's new team

So what’s next?

Aprilia plans to continue refining during mid-April private testing in Jerez to understand the true potential of the new bike and to help Dovi understand whether he will be in sympatico with the RS-GP.

The new RS-GP has gained weight, but downforce and agility has also been immensely improved when cornering. Aleix went on to say that the bike is much heavier, “after the race simulation I was totally exhausted".

A luxuriant future could open up for Aprilia, with Andrea Dovizioso as the rider and a new satellite team. The rumors seem to bring Valentino Rossi's VR46 closer to the Venetian brand ...
