If you want to start studying Japanese, I recommend avoiding beginner Japanese classes. In my experience, intro-level language classes are filled with students who aren't motivated and aren't invested in learning a new language, so the benefit of having speaking partners doesn't really exist. Also, having beginners as speaking partners is not really helpful in the first place, because their mistakes only impede your progress. Lastly, the pace of these classes is quite slow, and you can learn more on your own at a quicker pace if you put your mind to it. I learned Hiragana and Katakana in 2 days using free resources on the internet.
Obviously, instruction from a teacher is beneficial, and you may be the type who can't handle self-study. If that's the case, then you should just get a one-on-one lesson with a Japanese person (or good teacher) who can help you drill and practice conversation properly.
