Join us for a virtual workshop on "Starting Seeds Indoors" on February 15 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This workshop, presented by our very own UMaine Extension Kate Garland, horticulture professional, will provide you with valuable insights and best practices for growing seedlings indoors.

🌾🚜 The University of Maine Cooperative Extension had a fantastic time at the 2024 Maine Agricultural Trades Show. Here's a quick recap of our activities and highlights from the event:

🌱 Educational Workshops: Our Extension experts conducted a series of informative workshops on various topics, including sustainable farming practices, nutrient management in grasslands, growing blueberries, plant disease updates, and more. Attendees had the opportunity to learn from the best in the field and gain valuable knowledge to enhance their farming operations.

🤝 Networking Opportunities: The tradeshow provided an excellent platform for farmers, agricultural professionals, and industry leaders to connect and network. We witnessed fruitful discussions, collaborations, and the exchange of ideas that will contribute to the growth and development of Maine's agricultural community.

📚 Resource Booth: Our Extension booth was a hub of information and resources. Visitors had the chance to explore our publications, fact sheets, and online tools that cover a wide range of agricultural topics. Our experts were on hand to answer questions and provide guidance on various farming issues.

🏆 Recognition and Awards: We celebrated the achievements of our Dean Hannah Carter by receiving the 2024 DACF Commissioner's Distinguished Service Award! Her exceptional leadership and contributions to UMaine Extension and Maine's agricultural community are truly commendable. Well done, Dean Carter!

🥔 We have added more dates and locations to our Growing & Marketing Specialty Potato Variety presentation and roundtable discussion! Join our UMaine Extension Farm Business Management Educator, Brett Johnson, as he will deliver a presentation describing best practices in the cultivation of specialty potato varieties and will follow it up with a roundtable discussion where commercial specialty potato producers are encouraged to share their experiences marketing these products. All the information gathered will inform the University of Maine’s ongoing potato variety trialing efforts!
