Taman Serasi Hawker Centre was a beloved spot in Singapore, located across the gates of the Botanic Gardens at Cluny Road. It was opened in 1975 and sadly closed in 2001.

Roti John at Taman Serasi Hawker Centre is a Singaporean classic. The stall, Shukor Makanan Istimewa, was originally located at Number 9 Taman Serasi Food Centre and made the hawker centre synonymous with roti john.

Visiting Taman Serasi Hawker Centre may no longer be possible, but its memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who have experienced its unique atmosphere and tasted its delectable dishes.

Roti John, anyone?

A true blue Bedokian will recognise this park! I am so glad I found this photo!

As a kid, that park was my escape from the mundanity of everyday life. It was a place where I could play and run around. This photo transported me back to my childhood and reminded me of the innocent joy and carefree nature I had as a child.

The pavilion at the top left corner of the photo housed a florist, and it caught fire in 2008. The park became a skate park and is now where Heartbeat@Bedok stands.

One of my favourite activities when I was a kid was to go to the World Book Fair at the then World Trade Centre, now HarbourFront Centre!

I remember taking Bus 30 from Bedok Interchange. For me, the best part of the ride is when you’re travelling along Benjamin Sheares Bridge with the windows open and the breeze brushing against your face!

By the way, do you still remember this thing call encyclopedia that costs thousands in the 1990s? 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

BEDOKIANS! If you remember this… 👏

The empty space in front of the NTUC at Bedok Central used to be a water play area! Water shoots out from the ground periodically in varying heights (and with lights at night) and children will be running about while parents will sit by the side watching. The area was a great place for families to bond and have fun!

WHY I ALWAYS PEDESTRAIN? 😡

The Road Safety Park is a well-known landmark in Singapore that has played a pivotal role in the country's road safety education efforts for over six decades. Originally established in 1961 at Kallang Park before relocating to East Coast in 1981, the park was one of Singapore's first public education initiatives focused on road safety, aimed primarily at children. It features miniature roads, traffic lights, and other structures designed to simulate real-life traffic scenarios, providing a safe environment for children to learn about road safety.

Over the years, the park has undergone several renovations and upgrades, integrating new technologies and features to keep up with changing times. Today, it continues to be an important venue for educating Singapore's children and youth about road safety, serving as a tribute to Singapore's ongoing commitment to road safety and public education.

These card games familiar to you?

The card games Snap, Happy Family, Old Maid, and Donkey have been around for decades and are still enjoyed by many children and adults alike. Snap is a fast-paced game where players take turns putting down cards, and when cards of the same value are shown consecutively, players race to be the first to shout "Snap!" Happy Family is a simpler game where players collect sets of family members such as grandmother, mother, father, and so on. Old Maid is similar to Happy Family, except that players try to avoid getting stuck with the odd card out, the old maid. Finally, Donkey is a game where players race to match two of a kind and not be the player left in the end with a 'Donkey' card.

These games have become classics, and their simplicity and entertainment value have made them family favourites for generations.

My personal favourite is Snap. What about you?

Someone asked about Bedok 1 & 2.

Back in the 1990s, Bedok Town was home to four cinemas: Changi Cinema, Bedok Cinema, Princess Theatre and Liwagu Cinema. These cinemas enjoyed a good run until the mid-1990s, when they closed down due to competition from newer multiplexes. Currently, GV @ Bedok is the only cineplex in the neighbourhood, catering to the demand among residents for a movie theatre close to home.

There was a Ponderosa at one corner of Bedok Cinema and an arcade called Funland where my buddy and I would spend hours playing games like Daytona, House of the Dead, Virtual Striker (MVP Yuki-chan anyone?) and etc. My first movie was at Changi Cinema, and the film was Batman Returns. I must have watched it at Changi 2. If I remember correctly, a movie ticket back then costs only $5.

And yes, one of the ways to find out the movie screening timings was through the newspapers. 😅

What?! Chingay procession looked like this in 80s? 😱 3rd photo really 😂

The Chingay Parade is an iconic annual event in Singapore that has been held for over four decades. The parade originated in 1973 as a way to celebrate the Chinese New Year and bring together the diverse cultures and races in Singapore.

Over the years, the parade has grown into a massive spectacle that showcases various cultural performances, including traditional Chinese lion and dragon dances, traditional Malay and Indian dance performances, and stunning floats, costumes, and makeup. Today, the Chingay Parade is one of Singapore's biggest events, drawing crowds of locals and tourists alike who come to witness the vibrant colors, music, and traditions on display. It's a celebration of the melting pot of cultures that make up the diverse fabric of Singapore, cementing its place as one of the most vibrant events in the country's cultural calendar.

Ahh, Bedok in its heyday! Nothing like the nostalgia of the old bus interchange and food centre.

I grew up in Bedok and took bus 32, 40 or 30 to school during my secondary school days (wanna make a guess which school?)!
