Today, the United States Government, through USAID Pakistan, delivered its most recent shipment of emergency medical supplies to Pakistan, including more than one million pieces of critical personal protective equipment.

“Today, the United States is pleased to support the Government of Pakistan in protecting the country’s frontline healthcare workers in the fight against COVID-19,” said USAID Mission Director Julie Koenen. “During this unprecedented time, the United States will continue to work together with Pakistan to provide critically needed medical supplies.”

Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, the United States has delivered $49.7 million in assistance through our partnership with the Government of Pakistan. Last July, USAID provided 200 ventilators and trained more than 600 health workers in 64 Pakistani hospitals. In addition, USAID has improved and expanded laboratory testing, disease monitoring, case tracking in all districts, infection prevention and control, and patient care.

Congratulations! to Flying officer Shahrukh Khan on becoming the only Pakistani cadet to graduate from the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) in 2021. Shah Rukh Khan was accepted into USAFA in 2017for four years of rigorous academic and military training.

“I’m excited to learn about the world and people and their different backgrounds. From a military standpoint, it will be a chance for me to excel. I learned a lot in Pakistan. The USAFA will teach me new and different things,.” Shahrukh Khan said.

Fiza Syed, a Pakistani student studying in the U.S. at De Anza College in Cupertino, California, was elected vice president of finance for a student body for 116 community colleges representing 2.1 million students in California, USA. She won the election for the Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC), which gives students a voice in the formation of state policies that have a significant impact on students. Congratulations Syed!

President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Pakistani-American Dilawar Syed to serve as Deputy Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA).

Dilawar Syed is President and CEO at Lumiata, a healthcare company focused on reducing healthcare costs and improving patient outcomes. Previously, Syed was President at Freshworks where he helped scale the software company’s products to thousands of small and medium sized businesses.

“I am deeply humbled, honored, and moved by the President’s nomination of me to help lead the Small Business Administration as the Deputy Administrator. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, I will pour my heart and soul into helping entrepreneurs and builders everywhere at this challenging time,” said Dilawar

Syed immigrated to the United States from Pakistan as a freshman student to attend The College of Wooster in Ohio.

Kanza Javed is the author of the novel, Ashes, Wine and Dust. She holds an MFA in Fiction from West Virginia University. She was a short-term fellow at University of Massachusetts and a research scholar at Arizona State University. Her work has appeared in The Punch Magazine, American Literary Review and Salamander Magazine. She was a finalist at Salamander 2020 Fiction contest, and is currently working on her second book.
