What is a mood disorder?

A mood disorder is a mental health problem that primarily affects a person’s emotional state. It is a disorder in which a person experiences long periods of extreme happiness, extreme sadness, or both.

It is normal for someone’s mood to change, depending on the situation. However, to be diagnosed with a mood disorder, symptoms must be present for several weeks or longer. Mood disorders can cause changes in your behavior and can affect your ability to deal with routine activities, such as work or school.

Two of the most common mood disorders are depression and bipolar disorder. This article will review these disorders and some of their many subtypes.

Depression (major or clinical depression). Depression is a common mental disorder. Grief or sadness is a typical response to a traumatic life event or crisis, such as the death of a spouse or family member, loss of a job, or a major illness. However, when the depression continues to be present even when stressful events are over or there is no apparent cause, physicians would then classify the depression as clinical or major depression. For a person to be diagnosed with clinical depression, symptoms must last for at least two weeks.

There are several different types of depression. Symptoms may vary depending on the form of the disorder.

Postpartum depression (peripartum depression) - This type of depression occurs during pregnancy or after delivery
Persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia) - This is a chronic form of depression that can last for at least two years. Symptoms may occasionally lessen in severity during this time.
Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) - This is another type of depression that occurs during certain seasons of the year. It typically starts in the late autumn or early winter and lasts until spring or summer. Less commonly, SAD episodes may also begin during the late spring or summer. Symptoms of winter seasonal affective disorder may resemble those of a major depress

Social assistance act 13 of 2004 Rules and Regulations :

1. To Qualify for the srd R350 grant You must be between 18-59 years (18 Years or older)

2 . Applicants who receive an income more than R624 into their personal bank account should be declined awaiting Appeal.

3. Applicants who receive UIF do not qualify for the grant

4. Applicants who receive NSFAS do not Qualify for the grant.

5 . Applicants who receive Any Financial Support from a family member do not Qualify for the grant.

6. Applicants who recently received SRD grant by mistake should pay it back at any SASSA local offices.

7. Act 13 of 2004 allows cabinet, treasury, president and the south African government to extend the grant beyond 2023 , which means that in 2023 the srd grant will again be reviewed .

8 . Caregivers who receive their child support grant into their personal bank account must not be declined .

9 . People younger than 18 years do not Qualify for the grant.

10. If you are unfairly declined by SASSA please lodge an Appeal OR visit the SASSA Office to lodge a complain against SASSA.

11. Once you Apply for the srd grant , you give SASSA all the permission to go through your bank statement which will be issued by the specific Bank you have Chosen.

12. SASSA cannot process any payment while your banking details are Still Pending (awaiting verification from your bank)

13. If a recipient/s receive Double/triple the amount by mistake , he/she must return/reverse the money back to SASSA financial Office.
