I'm working on writing the FTA on their business opportunity rule. What changes would you like to see in MLMs to make them less unethical? Is it possible?
I think full income disclosures, reporting on sales to customers vs. consultants, and perhaps some regulations on disclosing that to make money in MLMs it's based on recruitment (so people know what they are getting into) would be a good start? But what are your thoughts?
Today was a big day for me. I got my website approved by Google to run ads, which had been a challenge.
I also got my first piece of "hate mail". But at least I have a new tag line to consider.

If you're anti-MLM, now is the time to tell the FTC you think that the business opportunity rule should be applicable to MLMs. Meaning, that when someone is recruited to an MLM they are given the proper disclosures about expected earnings if an income claim is being made.
This would be a great first step at making sure any potential recruits have access to important facts needed to decide if joining an MLM is right for them.

If someone offers you a way to make money to make your 2023 great, make sure you do your research before getting involved.
The first thing you should always do is ask the name of the company and give it a Google! Google the company name and if it's a scam, look for reviews, and search if it's a network marketing or multi-level marketing (MLM) company.

Newish MLM LiveGood was founded by the same person who created a defunct MLM called Skinny Body Care. In fact, some of the LiveGood products are Skinny Body Care. Not sure how all that works!
What makes this MLM extra interesting, is that they have a membership program. So they encourage affiliates and customers to pay $9.95 a month or $99.95 a year, and commissions are paid off the memberships, not the products.
Has anyone seen this promoted out there? Thoughts?

A new MLM called NUTRAFi is selling vitamin spray. A two-tier compensation model, but the plan still incentives people to build teams.

If you're thinking of joining or buying from make sure you're doing research into what a MLM is. Most people who join any MLM will lose money!
has started an MLM program, despite selling their products in-store and online. In my opinion, a disappointing choice.
If you're thinking about joining this MLM or any other, please educate yourselves on the business model. Even the FTC warns the majority of people will lose money.

In the Scentsy FAQ they have the question - is Scentsy a multi-level marketing (MLM) company? They completely dodge the answer, which is YES, they are.
If MLMs aren't so bad, why won't you admit you are an MLM? Why don't you want your Scentsy Consultants to know?
Scentsy is being deceptive in their own FAQs, so if you're thinking about joining - is this the type of company you'd want to partner with?
Not to mention - the average consultant makes almost no money. More on that tomorrow (or check the link in my bio).
Why would people with influence want to get involved in a MLM? It is a way their fans can feel connected to them. They can create large downlines and become part of the 2% that actually make money with MLMs.

OPTAVIA is owned by Medifast. In 2021 OPTAVIA had $1.5 Billion in revenue. But 82% of their Coaches didn't even earn the $5K needed to purchase an annual amount of product.
While the Coaches lose money, the Corporation and Shareholders earn money off their losses.

After reviewing OPTAVIA's 2021 income disclosure, this might be one of my least favorite network marketing companies. It can cost up to $5K to be a part of OPTAVIA (assuming spending $400 per month on their products) and 82% of Consultants earned less than that in 2021. With 20% making $0! This doesn't include the controversy over the diet plan itself.
Please look into this before considering becoming a "Coach"!

A $2.7 Billion dollar company pays their sales force on average $2,500 😫
Yes, some of their Brand Partners made a lot, but for the average to be this low, this means many of them earned $0 (not taking into account what they spent).
