Hey guys, I want to give out some tips for your website design because I know a lot of you are business owners here and either like to do things yourself or don’t have the budget to hire a professional for your website. Hope it’s useful for some of you!
**KISS**
Keep it Simple. If you are new to this, or are limited in terms of design skills, keep the design simple. Clarity and ease of access to information is far more important than fancy design.
Over-complicating your design beyond your capability could end up backfiring.
**COLORS**
Colors play a massive role in your website. Ideally, you want to keep the colors of your website in line with your brand colors.
In general, you don’t want to have too many colors, maximum maybe around 3 or 4 in your website design. Too many will make it look messy and distracting. There are exceptions to this of course but less is usually better.
**TYPOGRAPHY**
Typography is the style and appearance of fonts.
There are 2 types of fonts. Serif and Sans Serif. Serif fonts have the little curly bits at the end and is usually related to elegance and classic vibes. Sans Serif fonts do not have the curly bits and are seen as modern.
Then there are font families. These are the different styles of fonts under the 2 font types. There are many free and paid options. Google Fonts is a good place to start with free fonts.
Pick your fonts according to the vibe you want your website to give. Also the same rule as colors apply. It’s best to use just 2 font families.
**VISUAL HIERARCHY**
Visual Hierarchy in web design is the arrangement of elements on the web page in a manner that conveys the order of their importance.
Visual hierarchy is important so that your website’s visitors will know where to direct their attention to. Without a clear visual hierarchy, your website will look unorganized and visitors may feel confused. This could negatively affect your conversion rate as confusion could lead to frustration.
There are many ways to convey visual hierarchy, but the most common would be through size, color, and images/illustrations.
Please try to keep the most important elements of your website to be the most prominent, thus higher on the visual hierarchy. Don’t have different elements competing for attention in the same space.
**CTA**
CTA stands for “Call to Action”. This is the element on your website that you should focus on getting your visitors to interact with.
Keep it short and sweet. Your CTA should be clear and concise - long, drawn-out text will only confuse readers.
Use strong action verbs. Words like "click here," "download now," or "learn more" are all decent choices for CTAs.
Make it visually prominent. Use colors, graphics, and/or whitespace to make your CTA stand out from the rest of the page.
Place it somewhere obvious. Make it very easy to spot and hard to miss. Like on the header of the website or in between sections.
There are obviously many other things that you could do, but I feel that these are some fundamental tips that you can easily apply to improve your website!
Feel free to ask if you got questions etc, I'll try to answer them as best as I can.
I might post up some other tips over time if you guys find them useful.
Good luck!
