Hi, this is Dena with the Noisy Waters Northwest blog. I am making this first post for this Whatcom Not Forgotten page to have something here to help folks understand its purpose when I invite some people to like or follow the page.
Over the past 10 years or so, the blog sites of Coal Stop, Noisy Waters Northwest, and The Searchlight Review have covered local government and political proceedings that have impacted social and environmental justice in Whatcom County. As we, as a community, continue to wrestle with developing justice and well-being, past actions can help inform our present ones.
Additionally, I believe there is honor and respect and empowerment in bearing witness to historical injustices that we have witnessed happening before us.
Whatcom Not Forgotten will share content - in the form of quotes or excerpts, with links to the full posts - of past reports and commentary from the blog sites mentioned above, with the aim of giving all of us a chance to compare and contrast what went before with what is showing up for us now in Whatcom County. This offers some opportunity to gain better perspective and understanding for identifying what is real and what is not as we take actions moving forward.
