This is your reminder to always take what you see online with a pinch of salt ✨
Zhangjiajie is an incredible national park and we truly see why and how Mr Cameron got his inspiration for the film Avatar. BUT for this exact reason it is increasingly popular with both local and foreign tourists alike and is therefore the busiest National Park we’ve ever seen 🧑🧑🧒🧒
We’re also guilty of showing all the good parts so to keep it real, here’s what you don’t see:
⏰ The queues at 7.30am for the gates to open
🗺️ It is by far the most confusing national park to navigate as a non manadrin speaking foreigner (very few signs in English, very few staff around to ask for help, the maps changed at every stop, the bus system we still don’t get 😂)
🎤 The multiple group tour leaders who have themselves hooked up to loud speakers to control their groups and share information to the group are SO loud
🥾 Unless you go slightly off the path, you will spend ALL day with hoards of people and big crowds. We took a 30-45 minute hike to a viewpoint and had it almost to ourselves 🥳
Having said all of that, we’d highly recommend visiting Zhangjiajie and it was still an experience we loved, but wished we knew a little more of the reality 🤷🏼♀️
