Happy National Mojito Day
Happy #NationalMojitoDay! I made this animation for display at the bar on our wedding day since it was our signature drink. Mojitos hold a fun memory for @julessssh and I since we were drinking them at PIB’s Mojito Bay when we first started to get to know each other. Cheers!🍹

Altbier - Homebrew #6
Tried my hand at an Altbier, which means old beer in German. Can’t lie, after brewing it, I figured out that it isn’t one of my preferred styles. Hoodie clearly wasn’t a fan either. It’s very malty in taste, and might be a brewing error on my part, but almost even a little harsh, at least when compared next to my similarly malty Irish red ale. It’s only 5.1% abv, but tastes heavy like a 6 or 7%. But hey, at least I know now. Most likely won’t be brewing it again any time soon, but it’s checked off the style list.
Cheers!

Homebrew #5 - Irish Red Ale
Brewed a nice “crushable” Irish Red Ale, coming in at 4.2%. It’s the first batch that I used with a fining agent called Biofine Clear, and it worked really well, there was barely any haze to be seen. I’ll definitely be making this one again during the chillier seasons to warm up with. Cheers🍻

Blonde Ale - Homebrew #4
This blonde ale is my favorite beer I brewed, mainly because it tasted the best so far. For this one, I researched different water profiles to use for different styles of beer, along with the importance of water quality when brewing, so I actually got my home water analyzed. It came back with all the numbers, like pH, sodium, chloride, etc., and then you plug them into your homebrew software (Brewfather) and it calculates what adjustments are needed for the style you’re trying to brew. Here’s to hoping that focusing on the water quality this early will help me in the long run.
Cheers!🍻

Guinness Clone - Homebrew #3 - St. Patrick's Day
Happy St. Patty’s Day! 🍀 Had to try my hand at a Guinness Clone. I brewed this one with my dad while we hosted dinner with the family. Lesson learned to not do that again, way too much was going on to properly focus on homebrewing.
The beer turned out well though. When compared side by side with an actual Guinness, I actually think mine had more flavor, but that was likely becuase I was still using that bucket with incorrect gallon markings. If I used more water, and sourced water from Dublin, I think it would have tasted more similar.
Time to celebrate, cheers🍻

Peanut Butter Porter- Homebrew #2
I guess I’m turning my homebrews into a video diary now
My second all-grain batch is a peanut butter porter. It turned out well, but was a little on the boozy side. After looking back at the recipe and my notes, everything seemed spot on, so I wasn’t sure what happened.
Lo and behold, I randomly double-checked that the measurement markings on the starter kit bucket I still use are correct, and they are way off. Like, almost a gallon off. So everything I’ve done so far has not had enough water, which makes a lot of sense with the outcomes of my previous beers.
I’m learning something new with each batch, but hopefully it’s smooth sailing from here. Cheers!🍻

Pale Ale - Homebrew#1
I’ve been casually homebrewing for a few years, but only used extract kits. It’s an awesome way to learn the ropes, but the beer was never great, and I wasn’t ever really happy with how they turned out.
I finally moved from extract brewing to all-grain brewing, where you actually go out and buy 10+ lbs of different grains from a local homebrew shop (shoutout to The Vine n Hop Shop), and the difference in taste is night and day.
This pale ale was a pretty basic recipe, which helped me get used to the all-grain process and new gear needed, but it ended up reminding me of a Burning River Pale Ale by Great Lakes Brewing Co., which kinda blew my mind. It definitely gives me the confidence to keep on going and actually want to finally share beer with family and friends. I’m going to try to keep up with brewing at least one batch per month, and post the different styles. Up next is a Peanut Butter Porter.
Thanks @jrobin4 for helping with the brew, and cheers to the weekend!🍻
