Ever wondered how hard you're *really* training? 🤔 Meet the Training Stress Score (TSS) - while many see it as the ultimate fitness calculator that combines duration, intensity, and your own power into a single number... there is more to the story, YOUR fitness story, than meets the eye...
Here's the skinny on TSS:
🔶 Accounts for Stress (power)
🔶 Does NOT account for STRAIN (how hard your body is working)
Remember:
- TSS measures training load, but it’s NOT the full story 📖
- Life Stress, Work stress, Family commitments, poor sleep, too much alcohol or caffeine, and mental status ALL have an effect on the STRAIN
- Stress (power) is linear, but building fitness also includes Strain (HR, blood pressure, endocrine system status, etc) which is non-linear and harder to account for.
✔️ Your epic 5,000 km year-end stat? Kudos! 🎉 But it's not just the distance - it's about the effective stress and strain management, along with recovery and adaptation strategies which leads to the adaptations you'll gain, which count.
✅ Train smarter, not just harder. Balance those power-packed rides with sufficient rest, gauge where you are each day, riding on RPE as well as power... and you’ll be on a better track to peak performance!
