Jeety’s SRC Plantation Set Ablaze, Two Suspects Arrested
Margibi County, Liberia – A suspected arson attack early Tuesday morning, January 28, 2025, engulfed the newly acquired Salala Rubber Corporation (SRC) plantation owned by Indian businessman Dr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva, commonly known as Jeety. The fire, which broke out around 2:00 AM in Weala, caused an estimated loss of over US$35,000, destroying more than 150 rubber trees before firefighters and community members managed to contain it.

Two suspects, Joe Bono and Abraham Kpannah, have been arrested and confessed to the attack but have not disclosed their motive or any mastermind behind it.

Jeety, CEO of Jeety Rubber LLC, condemned the act as sabotage and warned that repeated attacks could lead to the plantation's closure, affecting hundreds of jobs. He expressed disappointment, noting his efforts to improve conditions for workers and their families.

SRC, Liberia’s third -largest rubber producer, was acquired by Jeety Rubber LLC in August 2024 after its previous owner, Socfin S.A., shut it down following a violent protest. The acquisition saved over 900 jobs and revived economic activities in the region.

Authorities are investigating the incident, with heightened concerns over the security of foreign investments in Liberia.
