There are seven (7) focus sectors that are supported for study. These are listed below.
1. Climate change: environmental, rural, water and natural resource
management.
2. Disaster risk management: civil engineering, engineering
technology, geology, geophysics and infrastructure construction.
3. Food security and agriculture: agricultural science, agri-business,
agricultural commerce and technology.
4. Renewable energy: energy distribution systems and technologies,
solar, hydroelectricity, geothermal and wind energy.
5. Private sector development and economic resilience: business,
commerce and Marketing.
6. Good governance: public management, public financial
management, government services, governance, international
relations, accounting and international law.
7. ICT: software engineering, networks and IT security.

JOB OPPORTUNITY
Position: Receptionist/Bookkeeper

Department: Alotau Regional Centre

Purpose: To handle the bookkeeping and receptionist tasks in the SIL Alotau Office, as well as secretarial duties as needed for the SIL Alotau Regional Centre Managers.

Responsible to: SIL Alotau Regional Centre Manager

Duties/Responsibilities

A. Receptionist -

Greet visitors and customers in a friendly, helpful manner
Assist visitors and inquiries, as able
Answer phone for the SIL Alotau Regional
Take messages and pass them on
B. Bookkeeper -

Process charges as necessary for services rendered to members
Process accommodation charges for commercial and other mission customers
Process “end of month” finance requirement and send to Finance Office
Keep Cash Box balanced and reconciled
Process payments to vendors in Alotau for goods and services utilized
Process other Office bookkeeping as necessary
C. Secretarial –

Daily use of office equipment, printer, photocopier, scanner
Compose and print letters/emails as needed to members / potential guests /
venders with quotations or invoices as relevant
Maintain up-to-date tracking of service requests made to the SIL Alotau Regional
Centre
Other tasks as needed and as directed by the immediate supervisor
Qualifications

Must have completed a minimum of university/college education and have two years of work-related experience (or commensurate qualifications with experience).
Must have excellent communication skills in English – written and verbal.
Solid bookkeeping experience
Must have ability to compose letters and emails to communicate to a PNG and expatriate audience
Critical thinking skills
Good working knowledge of the following computer programs: Word, Excel, Access
Positive experience in dealing with the public and communicating with speakers of English as a second language

Commitment to maintain Christian standards of behaviour at and away the
workplace
Honest and reliable
Able to relate well to others in cross-cultural setting
High degree of comfort relating to the public in person and on the phone
Able to work independently and with instruction
Team player
Good written and verbal English communication skills

High degree of comfort using office equipment (printer, photocopier, scanner)
Good understanding of SIL-PNG goals
