Special Announcement
The Panjwai Podcast will conclude with the finale of Season 3 on April 18, 2022.
What an incredible ride it has been. We are so proud and overjoyed at the response to this project. We thank you all for your support, and hope you stay tuned in to our final episodes in the coming weeks.
As mentioned in the video, all store items will be 50% off effective immediately, and the merch store will close for business on April 25th, 2022.
KAF Level Acceleration Takeoff
An AH-64E performs a "Level Acceleration Take-off" from Kandahar Airfield in 2017. While helicopters are certainly capable of taking off directly vertically, they have many different techniques for getting airborne which can be used in a variety of circumstances. A Level Acceleration Takeoff allows the helicopter to achieve its safe single engine airspeed while over the safety of the runway, and also allows it to make a very rapid climb to altitude at the end of the maneuver.
But really, it is just fun to fly 120knots 10 feet above the ground, then make a very small control input and suddenly be 1000 feet in the air.
In this video, you an also see some of the infrastructure of KAF in 2017 (which is why ive never posted this previously), to include some of the Afghan and US Air Force hangars, and if you look closely enough, the poo pond and boardwalk.

Rockets at Kaf
The last rounds I ever fired in Kandahar. Two test rockets on my way back to Jalalabad in 2017. Happy New Year!

The Panjwai Podcast LIVE Talks Military Television
We did an episode about how the military translates to the Big Screen, but how about to the living room? We talk the history of Military TV, the good, the bad, the ugly.
Nejat bomb
What was it like to sit on guard or overwatch in Panjwai? Just like this. Sometimes things blow up.

"Scouts Out" Book Release Interview and Whiskey Chat
Join us for a special live episode of The Panjwai Podcast Live as we chat with Author and former OH58D pilot Ryan Robicheaux about his book "Scouts Out", which documents his experiences in Afghanistan as a Kiowa pilot. Ryan flew over Panjwai from December 2012 to late 2013 and dedicated over half of his book to the fight in Kandahar that year. His Book released very recently, and we wanted to have him on to talk about it, and how that experience has defined him as a pilot, officer, and now as an author.

Episode 35 - A Voice From Afghanistan
Episode notes
This is the final episode of Season 2 of The Panjwai Podcast, and we wanted to do something a little unique and more impactful than some sort of close out.
This week we are featuring the voice of an Interpreter, in the final days of the US Evacuation, after multiple failed attempts to get through and be evacuated. Despite having a visa, he never made it out on those planes and remains left behind in Afghanistan.

Episode 34 - Death From Above
This week on the podcast we are joined by CW3(R) Keith Knicely. Keith is a former Infantryman turned Apache pilot, just like Curtis, except Keith did his transition much earlier. After the invasion of Iraq and a time as a Drill Sergeant Keith made the transition to the Apache in time to fly overhead in Kandahar in 2012. Part of Task Force 2-6, Keith flew over Panjwai, Zharey, and Kandahar as a whole. Keith talks about his time in Kandahar, his time flying with the OH-58D Kiowa community, and the impact that deployment had on him as an Attack Pilot. Keith would later go on to become an instructor pilot at Flight School in Fort Rucker, and guess who was in his very first class? That's right. Your 2nd favorite co-host - Curtis Grace.

TPP Live Celebrates the Launch Anniversary of The Panjwai Podcast
On Sept 16th 2020 we launched our Kickstarter and officially began our journey towards the release of The Panjwai Podcast. It was at this moment that the support and interest for the podcast far exceeded our expectations. We wanted to take the moment to talk about the podcast, where it is today, and invite you, our friends and listeners to join us to talk about the podcast, recent events in Afghanistan, and make sure that everyone is doing alright.
Mass Casualty
As I catch up on episodes, and the end of the season approaches, we are finally getting back to uploading clips! In this clip from Episode 32 - Rendering Aid, former US Army Medic Thomas Underhill sets the scene for what would become one of the worst days of his deployment to Sperwan Ghar in 2011 with B Company 1-5 Infantry.

Episode 32 - Rendering Aid
This week on The Panjwai Podcast we are privileged to have Thomas Underhill join us. Tom was a Combat Medic assigned to 1-5 Infantry out of Fort Wainwright, Alaska, and served in Dand District and Panjwai from April 2011 to March 2012. In Panjwai, Tom served at COP Sperwan Ghar where he and his platoon owned the western side of the AO and soon found that the realities of combat in Dand were not the same as the realities of combat in the Horn of Panjwai. Tom does a great job of highlighting those realities and offering some insight from his time as a Combat Medic and as a teammate to his brothers in arms, as well as a breathtaking account of the mass casualty event that sticks with him to this day.

Episode 29 - Taking Sperwan
This week we are exceptionally excited to bring you the story of Operation Medusa, from within the ranks of the Special Forces task force that seized Sperwan Ghar. Thomas Young joins us to talk about his time in the SOT-A
(Special Operations Team - Alpha) attached to Major Rusty Bradley and his ODA as they journeyed across the Registan Desert in support of Operation Medusa in 2006. Thomas talks about his military history, his wild experience that week in Panjwai, and we enjoy so great laughs talking about the Army and Afghanistan in general. This is not an episode you want to miss. Tom is a SOT-A legend and a phenomenal human being.
