I never worked at Chick-fil-A, but my love of nuggets and waffle fries started at the Southern Hills Mall in my hometown of Sioux City, Iowa. I spent many of my breaks scarfing down chicken sandwiches in the food court. I worked at Sears, selling polyester elastic waist pants and Sag Harbor blazers to ladies in the women’s department. But much of the money I earned ended up in the hands of Chick-fil-A.
Years later after spending decades working as a TV reporter, radio host and magazine editor I found myself in a season of change. We just welcomed our second child into our home, a beautiful girl from Burundi, East Africa. And I knew I wanted to be there to take her to school each day and pick her up. I was looking for a project that used my skills in broadcasting, writing and marketing, while also maintaining freedom and flexibility for my family. On top of a mountain during a Saturday hike my husband came up with the perfect idea: a Chick-fil-A fan podcast.
I quickly jumped on the idea and the pieces have come together beautifully. I have always admired CFA founder Truett Cathy and have since committed to reading every book he wrote, along with many of the books written by the Chick-fil-A executive team. Truett Cathy never graduated from college. He spent some of his childhood living in Atlanta housing projects. But he went on to create a billion dollar company using the Bible as his guide.
I can’t think of a better brand to form a community around, and that’s what I hope to do with “My Pleasure: The Unofficial Chick-fil-A Podcast.” It’s all about having fun, sharing incredible stories and treating people with love. So grab some nuggets, get comfy and tune in for chat, laughs and chicken!
