Hello y’all. My name is Josua ‘Ake. I see there’s a lot of people interested in this page. I’m a filmmaker in Tonga and if anyone is interested in shadowing me on a job feel free to message me. I don’t know much about filmmaking but the little I do know I’m more than happy to teach you guys. I also know resources for learning so I would be more than happy to share that as well. Malo!

Yo filmmakers and artists alike in Tonga. Look what I just found. It closes soon so that just means we have to work harder to submit a short film. If any of you know of people that are interested in making films please share this with them🙏. Details are as followed:

As part of our outreach for the Sundance Ignite Film Challenge, we are in the process of contacting international film schools and art organizations. The short film challenge, which serves as the application for the Sundance Ignite Fellowship, is now accepting applications through March 17th. The fellowship is an incredible opportunity for young filmmakers and we believe it will be of great interest to your students.

The yearlong Sundance Ignite Fellowship is open to 18-to-25-year-old emerging documentary and narrative filmmakers. The fellowship begins with a weeklong lab in Los Angeles orienting filmmakers to the fellowship and year ahead. For the rest of the year, fellows work with their mentors, attend select Sundance Institute programs, enjoy eligibility for internships, receive additional creative and professional development opportunities, and attend the Sundance Film Festival. The fellows also receive a complimentary membership to Adobe Creative Cloud. To date, 70 fellows have gone through the program, and six alumni have had their short films selected to screen at the Sundance Film Festival.

Filmmakers are asked to submit a one- to fifteen-minute short that shows us their artistic vision and unique voice. Submissions aren't limited to any genre or topic—the only requirement is that they represent each filmmaker's perspective as an artist.

Attached you will find a flyer that you are welcome to pass along to anyone you think might be interested!

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Don’t have thousands of dollars to go to film school overseas(since Tonga doesn’t have a film school lol). No worries. YouTube is a great place to start. You can get a free education and learn as much you are provided with on YouTube. This link shares the production of film from Screenplays to Grip and Electrics to Editing and so much more. Data here isn’t cheap but it’s the next best thing if you want to get into learning about film.

In 15 episodes, Lily Gladstone will teach you about film production! This course is based on an introductory college level curriculum and introduces practica...
