UNDERSTANDING WORK AS GOD’S GIFT; A DIVINE MANDATE TO CULTIVATE AND CREATE.
Verse of the Day: Genesis 2:15 (NKJV) "Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it."
Dear Christian entrepreneur,
The first word God uttered to man was "WORK (ʿābad)," which means to "cultivate." This foundational command is found in Genesis 2:15, where God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to "work it and keep it."
This directive wasn't simply about physical labor but was deeply tied to the stewardship and care of God’s creation. It reflects the divine intention that humans should engage in meaningful activity, cultivating not just the earth but also their talents, relationships, and spiritual lives.
As a Christian in business, understanding the concept of work through the Scriptures is essential because it frames work as a sacred duty, not just a means of survival or material gain.
The Bible teaches that work is an opportunity to participate in God’s creative process, to bring order and productivity out of chaos, and to reflect God's image by being productive and purposeful.
Work, in its purest form, is an act of worship. It is a way to honor God by using the gifts and abilities He has given us to contribute to the world around us. Whether in agriculture, business, art, or ministry, every task we undertake is an integral part of your walk with God.
Work is a reminder that God designed us to be co-laborers with Him, shaping and enriching the world He created.
As believers, embracing this scriptural perspective on work helps us to see it as a blessed opportunity to fulfill our God-given potential and contribute to His kingdom on earth.
Prayer for the Day:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of work and the opportunity to partner with You in cultivating and enriching the world. Help me to see my work as an act of worship, and guide me to use my talents and abilities to glorify You. May my efforts today reflect Your divine purpose and contribute to Your kingdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.
