Don’t underestimate the power of props in your food photography. Incorporating elements like textured fabrics, flowers, antique spoons, measuring cups, and pinch bowls elevates the visual appeal of every photo. Props not only add depth and character, but they also tell a story. Dig around the house, and you’ll be surprised at how much you can find!

specializes in producing high-quality Tunisian food products, including Harissa, sauces, and other specialty items. We had the opportunity to speak to brothers Mansour and Karim, who embarked on a journey to reconnect with and reclaim their Tunisian heritage. With a passion to share their rich Tunisian roots with the world, they’ve curated artisanal food products that echo their family’s cherished traditions. In their own words:

“Our products are raw and unapologetic replicas of what we grew up with, seeking to pay tribute to their origins.”

We get many questions about food photography and styling when it comes to cookbooks. On our website, we have a whole section of tips and tricks to help you with photography, should you choose to include photos in your cookbook. This is actually entirely optional!

Styling your food photos doesn’t have to be stressful; chances are, you already own plenty of items around the house that can elevate your images. Here are four household items you likely already have that can enhance your food photography:

1. Variety of Dishware: Look for different patterns, colors, and shapes to plate your dishes.
2. Serveware & Flatware: Vintage pieces with a touch of wear and tear can add depth and character to your setup.
3. Linens: Whether it’s napkins, tea towels, or kitchen towels, use these cloths to add texture and warmth to your setup.
4. Tools: Raid your kitchen drawers for items like measuring spoons, doilies, strainers, and twine. These everyday objects are great props for ingredient shots!

Eid Mubarak to those observing!

We are highlighting a beautifully intricate Eid cookie known as ma’amoul. These cookies are typically made with semolina and filled with dates and sometimes nuts such as walnuts and pistachios. Originating from Levantine countries like Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine, these cookies are an integral part of cultural celebrations and family gatherings, including holidays such as Eid al-Fitr, Easter, and Christmas.

The word “ma’amoul” comes from the Arabic root “ma’mal,” which means “to mold” or “to shape.” This refers to the intricate designs and patterns these cookies have, made from shaping the dough in wooden molds that are often passed down through generations. Families come together to prepare ma’amoul weeks in advance and often gift tins or platters filled with cookies to friends and loved ones.

What sweets or desserts do you prepare during Eid? We’d love to know; share in the comments below!

We are so excited to share a community recipe submitted by the talented . This cake rusk tiramisu was passed on to her by a friend’s mother, who substituted ladyfingers for cake rusks, and cream cheese for mascarpone, as those ingredients are readily accessible in Pakistan. We love this fresh approach to a traditional dessert — it’s also feels particularly festive and perfect for any holiday gatherings this season. You can find the full recipe on our blog, which is linked in our IG stories.
