MABWEADZIBA = (SACRED STONES)
I hope when studying Kalanga History it might happen you did came across this term “mabweadziba”. Mabweadziba is a combination of two names “mabwe” meaning STONES, & “dziba” meaning a POOL OF WATER. These names are then connected together by a lower case letter “a” that in the context of the term mentioned above, is used as a way of expressing possession as to what is said belongs to whom. Hence the literal translation of MABWE-A-DZIBA would be STONES-OF-THE-POOL-OF-WATER, and in the spiritual language MABWEADZIBA simply means SACRED STONES.
Well, Mabweadziba were located at a shrine called “Njelele” - a mountain cave where the Voice of the God of the Kalanga people 'Mwali' spoke from. Located in Matopos Hills, modern day Matobo district in Matebeleland South, Zimbabwe - the Kalanga people used to embark on a pilgrimage to this shire more often to acquire wisdom and to seek instructions regarding whatever that they couldn't fathom and deal with using their own human abilities and capabilities. The shrine was like a Tabernacle of some sort. Here God Mwali was worshipped. Here prayers were being made and as well as being answered instantly without delay. Here sacrificial offerings were presented before Him. Here was the gourd of the high priest, set with precious stones, from which messages from God Mwali were received. Here, in the holy of holies, dwelt the perpetual token of the presence of the Holy One, Mwali, the Creator of heavens and the earth.
