Did you know James Lord Pierpont composed and wrote the music for "Jingle Bells" to commemorate his town's annual sleigh races on Salem Street around Thanksgiving? The song made it's debut in 1850, in Medford, Massachusetts and was titled "One Horse Open Sleigh". Christmas is never mentioned in the song itself. Another fun fact 'Jingle Bells' was the first song ever broadcast from space, nine days before Christmas in 1965.
