After my fourth baby, I got lots of questions asking why I didn’t opt for a home birth 🏡 Don’t all crunchy mamas have home births?! 🤔 why would you get an epidural if you’re into nontoxic living?There is a stigma when it comes to birth and mamas are always judged in one way or another for how they choose to birth their baby 👶🏼Unfortunately, as a child, I learned that I couldn’t feel safe in my own body, and therefore wasn’t able to trust it.Years later, as a mother of 4, I can tell you I would still opt for an epidural if I had enough time, due to past traumatic experiences. I have friends that birth at home and are AMAZING warrior mamas, but my journey has looked a little different. This fourth baby came fast and furious and there was no time for an epidural. My body finally had the courage to show me that I could birth a baby without pain relief and it knew what to do. 🌟 But that fear of not trusting my body or the birthing process still lingers, which I why I still would choose a hospital birth with a team of people around me. Things don’t always go as planned in hospitals, but it’s the best place for me. I know so many of you struggle with this decision, as my DMs have been flooded with guilty feelings, once you find out you’re expecting you immediately worry about where to birth, what type of birth you should have, and how to avoid interventions while finding a happy medium. Ultimately, the pressure to do everything natural can be stifling. This process can make you feel alone in the crunchy world if you do not choose a home birth. I’m here to tell you that crunchy living can look different. As mamas, we do the best we can for our babies and ourselves @ any given time. Sometimes things don’t turn out the way we envisioned. 🍕 Heart Pizza Gluten Free Crust 🍕 1 Tbsp dry active yeast1 ¼ cup warm water (divided)2-3 Tbsp sugar (divided)3 cups gluten-free flour blend (see notes)*1 tsp salt1/2 tsp baking powder1 Tbsp olive oilPreheat oven to 350 degrees Combine yeast and 3/4 cup warm water. Let set for 5 minutes to activate. Sprinkle in 1 Tbsp of sugar a few minutes in.In a separate bowl, combine gluten free flour blend, salt, baking powder and remaining 1-2 Tbsp sugar depending on preferred sweetness. Whisk until well combined.Make a well in the dry mixture and add the yeast mixture. Add the olive oil and additional 1/2 cup warm water before stirring. Then stir it all together until well combined, using a wooden spoon. 🍕 Put the pizza in the oven to pre-bake for 20 minutes, or until it begins to look dry. Cracks may appear, but that’s normal and totally OK.Remove from oven and spread generously with your favorite pizza sauce, cheese and desired toppings.
